1989 Eagle Premier ES 3.0

Summary:

Under rated car, unique design!

Faults:

Nothing, just had the transmission flushed and filter changed.

General Comments:

A great one owner find with original miles. Car is black with gray bottom. All of the original paper work and window sticker came with it. No rust, perfect interior, except for minor fading. Fully loaded. "CHRYSLER" bring back the EAGLE & PLYMOUTH divisions.

1989 Eagle Premier ES 3.0 V6

Summary:

I'm looking for another one!

Faults:

Shortly after getting the car, several electronic things started to go. Nothing major though. The engine monitor light went out, so I can no longer see when that is telling me something, but the oil and temp lights are still good and that's what counts.

The power windows are very slow to go up. The passenger side no longer raises and the driver side gets slower and slower.

There is an oil leak somewhere under there, but I'm certainly not getting under there to find it!

A short in the horn has caused me to unhook it.

Transmission slips in the extreme cold weather every once in a while, but I have a feeling that has to do with the fact that there is a slow leak in it somewhere. It tends to leak more quickly in the cold weather and I find myself putting fluid in it maybe three or four times a year. Once the fluid is back in it, it's running great again.

The odometer was not working when I got the car. I would imagine that I have put over 50,000 miles on the car since I got it (mostly highway miles), and it was reading 89k when I got it. No telling how long the odometer was bad before I aquired the car. I'd say the car has at least 150k miles on it.

General Comments:

The car has definitely been the best used car I've ever bought. I paid 1200 bucks for it and it's been worth every penny. Although it's discontinued, it's still fairly easy to get parts for and they are not terribly expensive.

Nothing major has gone wrong with the car in the nearly three years that I've been driving it. It has never overheated, and has never given me any performance problems. There is a slight ticking in the motor that has been there since the day I bought the car. It will tick for about ten minutes after I crank it up and then it goes away. Performance wise, the car is a dream. It's got plenty of power when you need it, it rides VERY smooth, and the seating and interior are luxury all the way.

The car has a very sporty look to it and has been very easy to maintain cosmetically.

I'm glad I bought this car. It sure beats the hell out of the chevy nova (toyota tercel) that I replaced with it. I skipped on an integra to buy this car for a thousand dollars less, and I'm glad I did. It's much roomier than the integra and I KNOW it's given me less headaches than the integra would have.

I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a good bargain in a used car.

I read that you are looking for another one, I have a 1991 Limited, but it needs an alternator, and it runs hot, but it never overheats, I'm gonna replace the thermostat and see if that fixes the problem. Please E-mail me if interested at blackmontess24@yahoo.com.

The short you describe in your horn is most likely the result of the foam deteriorating inside the padding on the steering wheel area. Pull that cover off the center of the steering wheel and replace it with a new thin layer of foam between the two contact plates. That should fix your problem.

If you ever encounter the funky smell of syrup and have your interior windows fog up, then your heater core has blown. Check the Chrysler website, put you last 8 0r 10 of the VIN # and see if the safety recall was done. If not, the dealer is supposed to fix safety recalls regardless of age.

The Eagle Premier was a nice comfortable, somewhat sporty car but parts are now rare as hens teeth. Good luck.
