2000 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 4.6 V8

Summary:

There is not a better car for the money

Faults:

Replaced all 8 coil packs. 5 out of 8 were misfiring. The person before me installed Autolite plugs and Autolite spark plug boots, which the Autolite plugs were leaking compression around the ceramic. I replaced the spark plugs and spark plug boots with Motorcraft parts. No more problems since car seems to run great with no misfires.

General Comments:

This is a 4 door sports car. It handles like a Z28 Camaro; stiff suspension, nice firm shifts under heavy acceleration, lots of power.

AC will freeze you out the car in the summer, which usually hits 105 degrees here. In the winter, the heater will roast you out.

The car factory speakers sounds good with the after market Sony CD player.

2000 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 4.6L OHC

Summary:

Very reliable car with low maintenance. BUY ONE

Faults:

Since I have had the car, I have had no mechanical issues with the car; the only issue was the front ball joints needed replaced, but at 131,000 miles, I can't complain.

General Comments:

This is a very well made car, that is pretty fast for being 2 tonnes.

The 4.6L V8 is a very reliable motor with pretty good gas mileage. This car makes you feel very safe.

I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a powerful, reliable car, with good gas mileage, and low maintenance costs.

2000 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 4.6L

Summary:

I will be buying another for my next vehicle

Faults:

It seems to be cupping the front tires, but the repair shop said the ball joints and tie rods along with rest of front end look great. Getting an alignment to have the rest checked over.

General Comments:

For being as heavy as it is, this thing takes off with more acceleration than any vehicle I have owned.

The hard quick shifts are awesome.

With this many miles on it, I would expect an oil leak, but this car leaks absolutely no oil. even though it is 8 years old and was a State Trooper car.

It's very comfortable and you can stuff plenty of people in the back.

Gas mileage between city and highway is about 19mpg, and that's with my foot to the floor a lot of the time. (My 95 Bronco got 11-12mpg with similar driving.)

Trunk is huge, and holds plenty even with full-size spare.

The only bad thing about this car is the cost of tires. Speed rated tires on the car cost about $180 for Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW-2s, which the car came with.

Of course the back doors don't open from the inside, and the dome light doesn't come on when you open the drivers door (even with the blue connector disconnected), but neither problem is a big deal, and was expected since it was a previously a patrol car.

I have been very satisfied with my 2000 Crown Victoria (p71), but lately it has been running hot. The thermostat, water pump, intake manifold, coolant, and fuses; I have been to several mechanics, but no one can figure it out. I really don't want to lose this car that I am very fond off, but it seems I don't have a choice. If anyone out there has a solution, please post it, I'm sure there are many more p71 fans out there.

I just came across this post. There is air in the cooling system. It sounds crazy; there is a valve on top near the top hose thermostat. Open it, fill the system with coolant till it runs out. Oh, it has to be running. I hope it works. RC.

Pull the thermostat and refill from that point if you have air pockets. It's straight into the block.

2000 Ford Crown Victoria P71 4.6 HO

Summary:

Return of the Muscle car

Faults:

Headlights and horn needed rewiring. They were cut when police equipment was taken out.

Proportioning valve and rear brake pads and rotors replaced. 63,500.

General Comments:

This is a big, heavy, and safe car. The police package gives this car serious stopping power. It never overheats with the over-sized cooling system. I have owned Chevy Caprice police cars with the LT-1 and this car beats it hands down. It takes off the line faster with the 3:55 rear. The heavy duty trans always shifted nice and quick. It never burned fluid with the trans cooler. This is a great highway car with tons of passing power. It has a lot of room inside and the bucket seats are comfortable. The rubber floor covering were easy to clean. More than enough room in the trunk, even with the full size spare.

It is not great in the winter. Even with snow tires it slides rather easily (Mine didn't come with Trac-Control). Trac-Loc (POSI) rear would also help (optional).

Give yourself lots of stopping distance in the rain.

I got about 14/15 MPG highway and city combined. I would get a solid 20/21 on the highway.

People get out of your way on the highway, they don't tail gate you, and they drive civilized when they see this car. A lot of fun to drive.

Sadly this car was involved in an accident. I was side swiped on a major highway. My car slid across three lanes of traffic into a divider. The car was totaled. The Paramedics said I only survived because of this car. Not only was it a big car, but the police package gave this car an extra reinforced frame.

During winter I put 150 lbs in the trunk. Sand bags and never had a problem. During one snow storm I did not have a problem, and I drove past a lot of 4wheel drives in ditches.
