1999 Ford Focus LX 1.2

Summary:

You do not want my opinion

Faults:

The noise somewhere in the dash. This occured twice. The back passenger door would not open. Hub caps had to be replaced on a daily basis. Gasoline door latch broke twice. The major two itmes was the air conditioner leaking into the driver side and passenger. The other was the ignition key was unable to remove. Had to be replaced by a new ignition system. This took two weeks for it to come in and two weeks without my car. There have been 3 recalls that I have been advised about. The first year I had to replaced the front brakes. This year (2002) they had to be replaced again. There has been 3 sets of tires replaced due to the suspension problem. Interior of car is coming lose from the frame. Passenger side back tire looks crooked. Road noise is bad. Now the fuel pump has gone out. The cost was $400. Next day after this replacement, the focus would not start again. The wiring in this vehicle is the cost of this problem. The fuse box has melted. Service person told me it almost caught on fire. I feel I have said enough.

General Comments:

I would not recommend this car to anyone. Ford needs to revalue this car and help people who have had as much problems as I have.

1999 Ford Focus LX

Summary:

The most expensive mistake I have made

Faults:

The spring to the driver side window wiper blew off at 3500 miles.

Shortly after the gas tank cover broke off.

Before 10,000 miles I had already replaced the back brake pads and rotors.

At 25,000 miles I noticed the lining around the windows and head lights were badly worn and needed to be replaced.

Before 30,000 miles the center dome light went out.

The driver side parking light went out.

At 40,000 miles the ignition switch went out.

I began to experience sever shaking of the entire car when applying the brakes.

Now at 60,000 miles I have replaced the battery.

The starter went out.

I cannot operate the door locking control from the driver side. Each door must be manually locked and unlocked.

The air conditioner is blowing out warm air.

The latch to my trunk works when it wants to.

I sometimes cannot get the trunk to close at all.

The right headlight is much brighter then the left headlight.

General Comments:

The seats are extremely uncomfortable.

The small cabin makes it very hard to see the blind spot when attempting to make lane changes.

The back seat of the car is too small for a regular sized person.

You cannot comfortably fit an infant rear facing car seat in the middle.

This car is unreliable.

I would not recommend this car to anyone.

I have had many of the same problems with my Ford Focus including; Brake squealing noise at 8000 miles, trunk latch will not lock so trunk flops open, auto door locks are extremely annoying, auto transmission slips, front brakes had to be replaced at 15,000 miles, problems with the interior dome light either not going off or won't come on, severe vibration from the front end, ignition defective and car had to be towed, etc. Many of her comments were right on target.

1999 Ford Focus ZX3 2.0 Zetec

Summary:

A surprisingly nice small hatchback from Ford

Faults:

Squeaky rear drum brakes.

General Comments:

Surprising handling and very smooth automatic transmission.

Good use of rear seat room.

Engine and road noise levels could be lower.

Throttle response delayed and spongy. Zetec 2.0 has good midrange, but top-end performance is lacking.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
