You had brakes done at 70k... big deal, every car will need brakes. The squeaking? Mechanic obviously didn't clean parts well or used cheap pads... or you ride your brakes and glazed your brake pads.

Transmission fluid should have been changed at 30k, maybe the last owner failed to do this?

The interior light can be fixed, its the electronic door hinge, if its getting wet it can short out.

1996 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6

Summary:

Great first car

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car since I owned it in February. When I bought it the car needed a inner tie rod end, and a alignment.

1996 Ford Taurus GL

Summary:

A nice car to drive, but aggravating otherwise

Faults:

My check engine light is constantly on. I've had it put through on the computer multiple times and nothing comes up, but its presence is still aggravating.

There are 4 oxygen sensors that need replacing every so often, but the check engine light still doesn't go off.

The radio setup is nice, yet very inconvenient to replace with a new plate for a CD player.

The car is noisy under the hood.

Somehow the inside of my doors have separated from the metal part of the door.

General Comments:

On the outside, this is a very nice car.

However, the check engine light being on is very aggravating and often embarrassing when friends are in the car.

The car handles well and drives very nicely at all speeds.

Spacious trunk.

How did you fix your doors same thing wrong with my 96.

Go to the Auto store or Ford dealership and purchase door clips. It will cost you about $5 a door and take you 5-30 minutes to replace. Take the screw out of the armrest/spot for your hand to close the door. then pull the door panel off and replace all of the clips. push the panel back on and reinstall the screw. The dealership also has new screw in tabs that can be installed.

Oxygen sensors from ANY manufacture (Bosche, Nippo, NGK, ect) on any car are designed to last 50k. Purchase OEM oxygen sensors and you will get another 100-140k miles out of them.

Noisy engine is probably the belt tensioner going bad.
