1996 Ford Taurus GL 3.0L V6

Summary:

This car is built for many miles, but it needs help getting there

Faults:

Transmission went at 79,000 miles.. replacement is getting worse after 52,000.

Calipers in the brakes wear down too fast, but fortunately the mechanic fixes it for free due to a warranty on all parts. It wears brakes down to the rotors after about 12,000 miles.

Shakes at highway speeds.. occasionally has trouble starting for no apparant reason.

The brake light switch doesn't work, so my brakelights are currently not functioning.

General Comments:

I owned a 92 Taurus before this, and I loved it's reliability. That's why I picked another one up.. however it has had it's share of problems. The good news is is that I can still beat it up and it handles the abuse, and it never stranded me anywhere.

1996 Ford Taurus LX 3.0

Summary:

Great other than what is mentioned

Faults:

This vehicle was diagnosed to have a Broken retaining clip on forward Clutch Spring that may have to do with the overdrive not working, I really don't know exactly what this means. The OD lights blinks after I go over 50mph otherwise it does not. Now when I turn on the speed control the mileage indicator goes down to zero and the Odometer does not work. All of this does not affect the performance of the car, other than the power steering gets slightly hard when the Speed Control switch is turned on.

Can someone inform me and answer any of the above questions?

1996 Ford Taurus LX 3.6

Summary:

This is a very reliable, comfortable family car

Faults:

The front end makes clunking noises. It squeaks and rattles when you make turns. Sounds like the frame is coming a part. The fuses for the lights blew out, but come back on after a while. Smell burning rubber sometimes. The check engine soon light has been on for over a year. I've had it fixed several times, but comes back on after a few miles. The key less entry sometimes doesn't work with the key alarm.

General Comments:

Overall the car has been reliable. It only quit on me one twice. Once I needed a new battery the second time needed a new fuel tank. The fuel tank was the most costly expensive so far. Had to replace the lower ball joints and ball bearings once. I bought the car 3 years ago and it has lasted well over the winter. Never overheating in the summer and never needed a jump in the winter.

1996 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6 24v DOHC

Summary:

Taurus... Sleek, Powerful, Reliable

Faults:

The only things that I have had go wrong with this car is just the standard maintenance. The dealership replaced the transmission and battery upon purchase. I had to replace the tires, brakes, and the rotors about a month after I bought the car.

General Comments:

I also drive a 2005 Ford Taurus and I can't tell the difference between the two. I love the Taurus and am dissipionted that 2006 will be the last model year. This car will last for years to come. With regular maintenance and a little TLC, like anything, this will be a treasure to pass on for years to come. The only thing that I would change about this car would be the expensive PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) keys. This is the chip key from Ford. These are expensive to replace if you ever lose one...

All in all, the Taurus is an awesome vehicle.

1996 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6

Summary:

A very reliable, strong car at a very affordable price

Faults:

The only main problem I faced with this very reliable car was that at about 139000 miles, the transmission started to slip. I took it to the mechanic and a new main seal was required. After having the seal work done on it, the car is back to normal. Other than that I have had no problems with it and I plan to keep it as long as I can.

General Comments:

This is my second Ford Taurus. I priorly owned a 1992 Ford Taurus and put about 50 thousand miles on it without any problems at all. The Taurus is a car which is known to take heavy abuse. I have abused my 1996 Taurus a lot. The rear folding seat is very convenient and you can fit a lot of materials inside the car. I hauled a lot of material home in my car when I finished my basement. It is also a very strong car. I recently got in an accident where I was hit from the rear. The other persons car was totaled while my rear bumper had, but a few scratches. My son now drives this car and he loves it as it picks up speed very fast with its V6 sized engine. It also looks great.
