1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo coupe 2.3 intercooled turbo

Summary:

V8 power with 4cyl economy

Faults:

I bought the car in the winter of 2001, it was in decent shape but had some wear and tear (but what do you expect for a 14 year old car). Most of the problems are minor such as rust, dents and scratches. The neutral safety switch came off its mounts, and the power knob in the equalizer does not work sometimes. The car has had some problem. The clutch went at 121000km's, but I knew it was going to have to be changed when I bought it, and the head gasket might need to be replaced.

General Comments:

I love the power of this car, you can spin the tires in 3 gears. there is hardly any turbo lag, but when it kicks in you'd better hold on. It has some very impressive torque. The interior is very comfortable and has plenty of room, with all the options you could possible want in a car. There is only one compliant I have about this car, Its too heavy if these cars were lighter they would be rockets. I highly recommend theese cars too anyone. I plan to put on a boost valve, full exhaust system and K&N cone filter. If you ever have the chance to buy one of these cars do it!

1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe 2.3L turbo

Summary:

It's one of a kind

Faults:

Driver window clips were broken because of age.

Driver seat recliner is broken. I have to use a piece of wood to hold seat up until I am able to find another seat.

Missing pieces for the driver's door panel.

Thermostat went bad. It was the original thermostat.

Rear axle seals were leaking. I currently have new seals on it.

The Turbo will not go past 10psi. I am going to have it adjusted!

And last but not least, 9 times out of 10, when I put the car in reverse it will grind.

General Comments:

This is a very stylish car with a unique design. It has a sporty/muscle car type look, but yet at the same time looks like a luxury car.

This car is very comfortable, especially with the leather seats that have power lumbar and lateral support.

My "1988 Turbo Coupe Thunderbird" has every option in the world except a moon-roof/sunroof. I have power everything!!!

I love the automatic lights feature. I never have to turn the headlights on or off. Also, I never have to constantly turn the brights off and on for passing cars, I just leave the switches on one setting.

This turbo coupe was equipped with a spoiler which helps to add more control of the vehicle on difficult turns at difficult speeds. It also adds more of a sporty look to it.

Man, I love the power of a turbo charger. For a 4 cylinder turbo, this car has a lot of power and pick up. I personally think that this T-bird can put many other cars to shame.

I would rate this car as "One of a Kind." It's not often you can come along such a beautiful, comfortable car with as much power and speed as a sports car. And the best part is, that everything is all stock and yet very affordable!!!

1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe 2.3 turbo

Summary:

Contentment

Faults:

The vacuum lines on the turbocharger had to be replaced due to age.

The premium sound system radio volume control knob had to be repaired.

General Comments:

I love this car! It drives like a true sports car, and has power to spare. There's a slight lag in the turbocharger during spool up, but once it engages, you'd better hold on to your hat!

The interior is very stylishly done and comfortable. It has every available power accessory, including a moon roof and ride control! I couldn't design a better car if I wanted to.

The 1988 Turbo Coupe marked the end of the Aerobird era sadly, but they're still out there if you're interested in owning a true collectible.

Ford did a really good job with that 2.3 turbo. 190 Hp isn't bad for a 4 banger turbo or not. And that's 190 Hp stock with lots of room for improvement.
