Summary:
This a great car that just has one BIG problem, it has no power
Faults:
Several small things that just happen with time, like brakes etc.. I've had to have work done to the A/C system several times though. I had a rear bearing go out about 95,000 miles, but like I said nothing major has happened.
General Comments:
This a great car that just has one BIG problem, it has no power once so ever. I mean this little engine is pulling a four door sedan here not one of those hatchback models. I think that the 4 cylinder should have been put in all the sedans. Sometimes a simple hill can turn into a nightmare if you don't gain speed, of course this could also be the fault of the auto tranny I got instead of the 5-speed.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

One cannot have their cake and eat it also. The Metro is short on power but great on gas. The automatic transmission definitely makes this car sluggish. The 5 speed is the way to go and will add about 10mpg (honest!). I have a '97 Metro that I get 54mpg from all the time except in the summer when I use the airconditioner and it drops to 46mpg. If you want to pass, just cut off the AC, shift down and go.
Great little car. I would definitely buy another one. I have 121,567 miles on the one I have now and it has been a real economical car to own. I changed the timing belt (myself), just changed both of the rear wheel bearings and that is about it except for oil changes and filters every 2500 miles. It gets most of its mileage on the open road as I drive 80 miles round trip per day. With the cost of gasoline going up and up with each passing day, I praise my little Geo more and more.
I think I will go out and purchase a new one and put it into the garage for future use (economical, you know?). Believe me, when the gas prices get up high enough there will be a run on these little cars and then you won't be able to purchase one for love or money.
