1996 Geo Metro LSi 1.3

Summary:

A overpriced hippie mobile

Faults:

The car sprays oil like it struck a well. I take it to my brother for him to fix it, but he can't get a manual anywhere in the continental United States. He also told me he will probably have to pull the engine in order to take the pulleys off.

Also it makes a rattling noise like a cat purring.

The A/C goes out every year.

Both side mirrors fell off.

When the A/C is on, the car takes about as long as sap running down a tree to get to 35mph.

Over all the car is a piece of crap and I do not recommend it to anyone.

Another guy that expects so much from a car he paid so little for, you get what you pay for and if you treat the Metro's right they will treat you right, you dog them and they will dog you.

I like the little Geo Metro, I have a 97' 2 door LSi and it will scoot for a 4 cyl. I have run it at the drag strip a few times, and it does great. Sure it isn't near as fast as your average hot rod, but it has never let me down. It does 12.70 at 50 mph in the 8th of a mile. See if your 1.3 4 cyl. can do that.

Summary:

Economical and reliable

Faults:

Catalytic converter was replaced when it failed a smog test at 74000 miles old.

General Comments:

This is one of the most reliable vehicles I ever owned. Gives me over 40 miles per hour despite its automatic transmission. Once you get used to its size, driving it becomes a real treat.

Not recommended for long distance travel, but perfect for daily commuting.

Maintenance is really cheap (even timing belt) and when repairs are needed, nothing has ever cost me more than $200.

Because of it's size tires are very affordable. Very good car.

1996 Geo Metro LSi 1.3

Faults:

Washer pump went out at 45,000 miles.

Brake shoes wore out incredibly fast.

AC drainage to the outside always messing up so that it leaks in my front passenger side.

Gas gauge is extremely tempremental and can be off by more than a gallon at a time.

General Comments:

This car is a good first car, as I haven't had anything seriously go wrong with it in the past 30-35,000 miles I've driven it. It's just annoying little things like the brake shoes and the washer pump and the fact that it's really hard to find any books on it to fix it. They forgot about the Metro!!

1996 Geo Metro LSi 1.3

Summary:

Good car

Faults:

Blown head-gasket.

General Comments:

It was my fault the head gasket blew, a hose came loose and the car started to run hot I thought I could make it home - wrong, before I knew it the hand was in the red and I had blown the head gasket. The best thing about the whole situation is that I took the car back to dealership and they fixed it for free since it was still under warranty. They are the best service dept around, I always get reminder cards when the car needs service, they always treat me well, and the car is always in perfect shape when I get it back.

1996 Geo Metro LSi 1.3

Summary:

Not built to last!

Faults:

Wiper fluid motor went 2 days after I bought it.

A/C constantly breaks/leaks. Controls "slip" so that on/off do not work right.

Transmission started making noises at 50,000 miles.

Bearings died at 66000 miles - this is ridiculous!! I thought these were supposed to last forever! Oil was changed religiously, even used expensive oil & filters.

Dealership never fixed things definitively.

General Comments:

It was decent transportation until now!!

I took excellent care of it, and it still is dying very soon!!

You must've got a lemon. Mine works great with 206,000 miles on it. I kept immaculate care of it. It should go on forever.

Yep, you got a lemon.

27th Sep 2002, 18:10

Sorry about that lemmom you got. mine works perfectly with 100 000 miles on it. better start looking for another one.

Yeah, trouble with lemons is, that when they're all too frequently attributed to one model, one does start to wonder. A cheap throw-away car, do yourself a favour... throw it away.

One year and a half ago, I bought a 1996 Geo metro, automatic transmission, 4 doors... I can say it's an excellent car, no troubles at all since I have it.

He keeps its power and stability.

Excellent car.

I have had a 1996 geo metro for six years now. it has 117.000 miles. The longest I drove it was 2,200 miles, worked great. Only basic service the car needed was oil changes, etc. However I did need a water pump put in, and my washer fluid stopped working a short time ago, but hey for $8,000 it wasen't that bad.

I have a 1995 manual Geo and have never had a problem with it 95000 miles later.
