1993 Geo Storm 1.6

Summary:

It grows on you

Faults:

My timing broke at about 125000 ($250.00)

My clutch went out at 127000 ($460.00)

My UV joint had to be replaced when I bought the car ($100.00)

Thermo sat went out at 128000 ($5.00)

General Comments:

I have put a lot into repairing this car, but the fact that I only paid $1450 for it made it a very good deal.

I also believe that the reason I had to repair so much is because of the previous owners.

All together I hope I have this car for many more miles now that I have repaired a lot of the major components.

1993 Geo Storm

Summary:

I love my Storm!

Faults:

After I first purchased it, a coil went bad causing it occasionally to not start. This was only a $50 repair at a trusted mechanic. (I don't go to dealerships)

The next repair was my fault. The timing belt broke because at 120000 miles I still hadn't changed it.

A few minor problems:

Sometimes the key will not turn after I put it into the ignition. I just leave a key in the ignition all the time to solve this.

Somehow the part that holds the door open broke off and fell inside the panel. This doesn't bother me enough to want to spend money on it.

Other than the brakes and tires, there have been no other repairs!!

General Comments:

This has been an excellent car. Few repairs have been needed, and it's still going strong at 176000 miles.

The body is a little dented and dinged as it is not very strong material, but I prefer a good engine to good looks.

On another note, for a 4 cylinder engine this car has get up and go! It will never beat a V6 off the line, but probably standard car with a 4 cylinder engine (Although, I have never tried racing it.)

1993 Geo Storm

Summary:

Definitely worth $1000

Faults:

The car was purchased at auction and had major work done. The water pump, timing belt, battery were all replaced.

The front axles and front struts were replaced at 150k miles.

Sometimes leaked minimal amounts of antifreeze.

Car performed below average while on the freeways. Engine was working very hard to go 75 MPH. I recommend 65-70 at most, with 60 MPH being the most comfortable.

General Comments:

The Geo got great gas mileage and probably had one to three more years in it.

I was able to consistently get 20-27 miles per gallon.

Lots of pep with the 5 speed transmission.

The car is not the most comfortable and I do not recommend having someone in the back seat.

The stock AM/FM cassette stereo definately showed it's age.

No complaints on the Storm, especially at the purchase price and low maintenance costs.

1993 Geo Storm Base 1.6 SOHC

Summary:

Fast, fun, reliable, The Storm

Faults:

No major problems to speak of. I had to pick up some things to improve the look of my car, i.e. a radio knob, cover for the light in the interior, such small things like that.

The only bad thing is my wheels shake at speeds over 60, probably because I need to have them balanced.

General Comments:

For a car rated with 90 horses, I was impressed with its speed. Could have something to do with the 2200 lb curb weight.

The low-slung seats make it a bit of a chore getting in and out, but the bucket seats are quite comfortable.

The back seat is best used as a bench to hold your stuff, not as seats. It is almost impossible to get in the back (it's actually a bit easier to get in and out of the back seat via the hatch).

Overall, it's a great car. Highly reliable, fun, fast, superb as a first car.

1993 Geo Storm

Summary:

The best small car for a good price

Faults:

Door locks became worn and hard to use.

Clutch went out at 145,000 miles.

General Comments:

A nice car for high school students looking to get around.

It handles like a dream.

Its size allows it to fit almost anywhere you can think.

Speedy and powerful for the engine size.

The gas mileage allows for stop and go driving or long distance trips.

Just bring an extra gas can just in case.

In my opinion, a serious babe magnet, for those who wish to use it in this way.
