1985 Honda Accord LX

Summary:

I like it, But I am confused

Faults:

I dont nkow!!!, It will not pass smog, I just had a new catalytic, converter put on it for $120.00 and it failed, it was putting out (CO%) of 5.76 @ 15 mph and 3.83 @ 25 mph, I don't know what to do to fix it. Only had it for 3 days, and I am guessing it is the carburetor, If you can help me it would make me so happy. Thank you.

General Comments:

I love it other that that. I love Honda's any ways!

How old is the timing belt? If the timing is off the car will not run properly and it can cause the car to fail inspection. Sounds like a good idea to have it replaced at an independent shop for cheap.

1985 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder

Summary:

I love my "armadillo"- she's a tough honda!

Faults:

Alternator replaced 120000.

Throttle gets stuck- idle is high- trouble passing inspection (just give it a gas treatment and a half hour drive at 80 mph before the inspection)

Oil leaks- typical.

Master cylinder leak- most expensive replacement- brakes are soft (driving backwards fast and slamming the brakes tightens the calipers for free)

I finally acquiesced and got seat covers.

Overheats- city driving.

Stalls on cold damp mornings.

General Comments:

I love my "armadillo"! she's the best!

I paid $1600 for her in 1997- I only broke down once! I'm 26- still on my first car!

It is the most comfortable car (I'm petite)

Runs like a champ!- she's got heart! Her engine will outlast body. Very peppy! I tell her that if I could afford it I'd pimp her out!

1985 Honda Accord 1.8 liter

Summary:

Honda's quality is evident in this car!

Faults:

Just a few expected repairs... New parts are very cheap, and replacing them was fairly simple with the help of repair manual and boyfriend!

Alternator.

Distributer (done myself!)

Breaks.

Head-gasket.

Fuel Pump.

Water Pump.

Heater Core.

The cost for replacement parts in total has been about $400. Not bad considering the car was free!

General Comments:

This has been an excellent car for a college girl. Cheap to maintain, great gas mileage (23/25 mpg) Not the hottest car in the parking lot, but its fun to drive (surprisingly quick!). 260000 miles on the engine/transmission, and still running like a champ. Also, the car is simple to work on, almost anyone who has some basic understanding of autos and a repair manual can fix the minor problems I have had.

So, are you saying that you had a head gasket job done for under $400???

1985 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder.

Faults:

We have had to replace the fuel pump, but that was easy to do. We went to the public library, borrowed the book that told how to fix it. It cost $60.00 for the pump and less than 1 hour of time to install it!

General Comments:

I bought this car as a winter "beater" because my Cougar handles so poorly in the snow. I drive this car more often than my real car.

This car handles well in the snow and slush.

I feel confident and safe while riding and driving it.

I am amazed at all the power options this car came with for the year 1985.

I want to change my fuel pump on my 1985 accord, but cannot find where pump is located on car.

Fuel pump replacement: Test first. With the driver door open, crank the car. You should hear a clicking noise from behind the left rear tire. The pump is located forward of the left rear wheelwell. To remove, you don't have to take the tire off, it just makes it easier to get at, unless you have access to a lift. Jack car securely, remove left rear tire, and just forward of the wheel opening on the underside of the car is the pump. It has a cover over it held on by 2 10mm screws. Be sure to replace the filter while you are there.
