1989 Honda Accord LX-I 2.0

Summary:

Honda Quality is Thumbs UP!

Faults:

Did general maintance when I got the car. Timing belt, rotor, plug's, new battery, K&N air filter, all fluids replaced, speedometer replaced as it squeaked, driver side window seal, head gasket is starting to leak.

General Comments:

Interior is in mint condition.

Body is like new, no rust.

The car is fast, but not a racer.

I like the ride and look of the whole car, economical and reasonable quick.

1989 Honda Accord LXi Coupe 2.0L 12-valve 4 cylinder.

Summary:

Good $400 car for a 17 year-old

Faults:

Had to get new steering suspension when I got it, new upper left ball-joint and control and both outer tie-rod ends. Cost about $400.

Constant oil leak, add in about a quart a month.

Does not like working well while it is warm out: idles badly & Compact Disc Player cuts out when I accelerate, like it loses power.

General Comments:

Car accelerates and responds very well, handles like a dream. Can beat my friends in 0-60 test.

Plenty of room, air conditioner & heater works well.

Don't like how my CD player always cuts out.

1989 Honda Accord LXi 12 Valve Fuel Injected

Summary:

There is no better car than a Honda!

Faults:

New brake pads, rotors, tires, battery, alternator, and new RF stereo. Will either need new front seats or seat covers soon- they don't look too bad, but I like my car to look nice; back seat is like new.

General Comments:

The car is very agile, moves like a breeze on the freeway, picks-up quickly, handles beautifully, is so much fun to drive, and I feel really cool driving it too.

I cannot emphasize enough how fabulous Honda Accords are in design, durability, and dependence. This is my third Accord and I am simply sold. I will absolutely not drive anything else!

I want to comment further on this car; I am still the owner of this wonderful and durable car. I've owned it for two years now and since my first post, I've had new tires, a new battery, starter, CV-joints, rotors, brake pads and engine belts put on. It still handles beautifully at 180 thousand miles. I know I will have this car for several years to come.

1989 Honda Accord LXi 2.0

Summary:

Geez, I only paid $5,000 for this?

Faults:

Axles needed replacing at 100,000 miles.

Factory Radio stinks!

Driver Side seat is very worn.

A/C is mediocre.

Muffler needed replacing at 82,000 miles.

One set of breaks lasted me only 30,000 miles. (Brake manufacturer's fault)

Sunroof leaks.

Slight Rust.

Bottom plastic trim has faded.

Trim is falling apart.

General Comments:

Though this car is the white elephant of the parking garage, it gets me where I need to go, and I still get 35 MPG!!

Though the car is falling apart on the outside, I guarantee you I can get at least 250,000 miles out of the engine.

1989 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder

Summary:

Cheap car that is expensive.

Faults:

Water pump, heater core, alternator, starter, replaced transmission and clutch, fan motor, CV joints-twice, head gasket and radiator.

(I swear, I do not race this thing and I am not hard on cars!)

Most recently I replaced had to replace the cylinder head, the brakes and tires.

Why do I keep this thing?

Interior is falling apart.

Engine smokes a little now.

General Comments:

This car is a lemon. I was talked into buying this car. People were raving about how great this car and I wanted something I didn't have to take to the shop all the time. Boy, was I in for a suprise.

I bought this car from a little old lady for $4000. I've put into it another $5500. It's worth maybe $2500 now. You do the math. I can't count how many times I've been stranded on the side of the road.

The interior is cheaply made and uncomfortable on long trips. It rides like a cushy skate board. Loud tire noise and harsh road feel attest to the cheapness. This is Honda's flagship model?

The engine has no power unless you rev it up to 4,000 rpms. Get ear plugs, it sounds terrible. Imagine a blender on the highest setting under your seat. Don't try to pass anyone at high speeds. You may not live to see the next day. Put four adults in this car and it feels like you are pulling a yacht. Hit a bump and the suspensions really gets it.

I do have to give the car some credit. The gas mileage is great. Fill it up once a week and you are set.

Don't expect to pick up anyone of the opposite sex in this car though. I would advise also to avoid accidents in this car at all costs. I don't feel safe in this motorized tin can.

My last car was a SAAB 900 Turbo. That was a nice car. I plan on going back to driving Swedish and German cars soon.

After reading this I swear I bought my Honda from you. and one other thing I learned is this car only starts in the morning. The rest of the day you have to push start it.

My 89 Accord has 263,000 miles on it. It had 175,000 when I bought it five years ago (for $2,500). I have put maybe $2,000 in repairs in it during that time. That's $4,500 for 5 years (or 60 months) bringing the per month cost to roughly $75. Not bad.
