1989 Honda Accord LXi 2.0 EFI

Summary:

Reliable, quick, economical - Great car!

Faults:

Replaced oil filter O-Ring.

Slight coolant leak, possible cracked head gasket.

General Comments:

I love this car. The engine is peppy and has great pull, and the handling is spectacular. It's a very comfortable ride, though not as comfortable as my previous car (1986 Camry). The engine note is utterly beautiful, has a much more aggressive growl than your normal 120 horsepower engine. The fact that it's still running beautifully after 213,000+ miles of abuse is a testament to the amazing quality of these cars. You simply can't go wrong with any Accord, especially a 3rd-generation fuel injected one.

1989 Honda Accord LX-i 12 valve,,,2.0L

Summary:

This car is a living legend!

Faults:

First my Alternator went, then my starter went.. most recently my water pump and radiator were burnt. I'm also in the process of replacing my ball joints. I also added a 5 inch exhaust to it with 2 1/4 inch pipe from the cad. converter. I love this car.

General Comments:

This car is my first and only, I would never be able to look at another car the same.

I want another accord, but this one is not leaving me anytime soon.

Its quick, but not quick enough!

1989 Honda Accord SE-i 2.0 fuel injected

Summary:

A college student's dream car

Faults:

The doors do not close properly, so I have to periodically adjust the door strikers.

General Comments:

The car makes various front-end popping sounds when in reverse at low speeds.

It performs very well for a 14 year old car.

It is very difficult to find aftermarket performance parts for this car.

I do not doubt it's reliability.

I would definitely buy another Honda in the future.

Interesting comments. My Honda will start immediately when jumped, but if it sets for two hours it is dead again. Is that the distributor or starter? Also, after it's sat for awhile it blows blue smoke. It doesn't do this in summer. Has 255,000 miles. I love this car. When it runs of course. It had a plastic piece rot out on the glove compartment so I took it off. And the radio has started making a sound like white noise. ho hum The engine light also comes on, but I'm hoping that it is just a check up light. Can you help me or is this too ridiculous? I've researched this on line, but there doesn't seem to be any mechanical history that I can read on the net. Or people to ask questions of. Thank you.

Hey I've recently bought a stick 1989 Honda accord, and I don't really know much about cars, and I can't seem to find a way to check the transmission fluid, now is there a way to check, or do stick cars not have that?

1989 Honda Accord SE-i 2-door 2.0 Injected

Summary:

It would be better if it was a manual

Faults:

My oil pan leaks at the plug.

My left, front wheel squeaks.

The driver's side window did not roll up. The power-window control box was messed up.

The Bose amplifier was blown. The stereo system had to be completely re-wired.

The transmission does not work well at all. It will get stuck in 3rd gear, and then, it will jump back and forth between 2nd and 3rd gear for no reason. Shifting down into D3 solves this problem temporarily, but this still means it will only get up to 3rd gear, and then, eventually it will just get stuck in 2nd gear. This is what causes high running costs. The gas mileage probably drops down to 8 miles per gallon.

Plastic pieces have broken on the inside.

It seems to be an attractive target for people to hit.

The leather seats are torn and dried up.

The rear fold-down seat does not latch to the locking mechanism.

The plastic light bulb holders for brake lights broke, so I had to tape them in.

The left door does not close right, and it does not hit the sensor, so the light that shows when a door is open, is always on.

The cooling fan stays on after the car is turned off for up to 30 minutes. This drains the battery.

The power-steering fluid leaked for a while.

The brakes are very sponge-like, even after bleeding the brakes. They do not stop very quickly.

General Comments:

This car would be good if it didn't have so many problems.

I love the way it drives when it drives, or when it gets up into 4th gear.

The acceleration is horrible due to the incredibly bad shifting.

At least the stereo works well. Of course, I had to fix it all to make it work.

I have the same vehicle and have had it for 2 years now with no problems. The key to a good vehicle is good maintenance... vehicles are like people... if they are not cared for they die young.
