1996 Honda Accord EX 2.2

Summary:

Everything a Honda should be!!

Faults:

Needed a new starter at around 160,000 miles, replaced myself for about $150.00.

Check engine light has been on since around 140,00 miles due to a faulty EGR sensor, not affecting me so it's not been replaced.

Something is slipping on the drivers side door lock. Everytime you lock the door it makes a loud buzzer type sound. It's been doing it for 60,000 plus miles so I'll change it when it goes, it's just annoying and works fine.

The oil sump plug came out at around 120,000 miles and completely drained the oil out. This WAS a recall which I was unaware of at the time, and since I noticed it quickly no damage was done to the engine.

Factory CD player stopped working at about 135,000 miles (It started rejecting CD's when I started using burn disc, so I think that's the root of the problem).

Rust holes in front in the exhaust pipe started showing "loudly" about 10,000 miles ago.

Sometimes when it's cold and you start off there is a weird, kinda hard shake from the front end like your running over pot holes at speed. It has been going on for almost 40,000 miles and it's just an annoyance to me. It's like the transmission is slipping. It only does this after the car has sat for at least 10+ hours and only maybe a time or two a month.

General Comments:

This car is a exactly what I expected from a Honda, it has been unbelievably reliable and I'm sure it has plenty of years left as a great car. I do change the oil regularly and that's it. I do a lot of off road driving and it has very few rattles. I would be confident and worry free for another 100k.

I have a fairly new vehicle, even though it is 11 years old.

What may be other types of faulty issues that could occur due to wear and tear of a 1996 Honda Accord EX?

1996 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder 2.2 Auto

Summary:

Extreme reliability

Faults:

Overall, nothing major has gone wrong on this car. The only things that I have paid to replace have been the power window regulators on both front windows.

General Comments:

This vehicle is extremely low maintenance and an excellent choice for a first car, or a daily driver.

Hondas are known for their extreme reliability, and as long as you keep up with the basic maintenance, they will last a long time.

These cars seem to hold their value, and when it comes time to sell mine, I expect that I will still get a large part of my money back.

My only complaint about my Honda is the lack of power: this is no BMW. With the stock automatic transmission, this car lacks in acceleration until you reach high RPM. This, however, does not change the fact that it's still a great car. When you go several years without any huge maintenance repairs, you will thank yourself for buying such a quality made automobile.

1996 Honda Accord Ex 4 cylinder

Summary:

Its been a good reliable car even with a lot of miles on it

Faults:

The Check Engine light came on at about 150k due to the ERG value.

Ever since I've had this car, the driver's side window is slow going up and sometimes gets stuck in cold weather.

The fan will need replaced soon, it stops running occasionally and then comes back on again.

The Hot/Cold knob on the dash-board is a little tight and uneven when I turn it. Its been like that since I bought it.

General Comments:

The car had a lot of miles on it when I bought it. At the time I didn't drive that much; now I drive 100+ miles a day. So far, the car has been great! I have had very minimal repair work along with the daily maintenance. Of course, it is getting older and has a lot of miles on it so it's expected that I have some extra repair and maintenance that needs to be done. Its been very reliable (knock on wood) and it has good performance. I still have the factory sound system in it (am/fm cassette with 6 disc CD changer) and I have to admit I'm impressed with how much Bass it can put out. I'm surprised at how many compliments I get from people about my car and they are always amazed at how many miles I have on it. My little Honda is a real trooper! I just hope it keeps running this good.
