2000 Hyundai Accent GL 1.1 Ltr.

Summary:

Excellent buy overall, worth the investment, very good warranty package

Faults:

We have had an oil leak that is depositing oil on the top of the transmission. The service dept. technician says he can't figure out where it's coming from. We have taken it in twice for this, told the same each time, and each time they've injected a dye into the oil lines to see if they can detect it's point of origin. Also, we have had a problem since shortly after purchasing the car with it idling rough when stopped and have a foot on the brake. The problem is worsening, have taken it in several times only to be told this is common with these cars. I can't believe that it is OK for a car to idle like that for no fixable reason.

General Comments:

I like the way the car handles.

It's been very good on gas.

Low in maintenance costs...etc.

Relatively comfortable ride, but could have a bit larger interior to create more leg room.

I am considering buying another as well, so long as I can find out what the cause of the problems that we are experiencing so I know what to watch for in another.

2000 Hyundai Accent 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great car, Southern Ontario dealer and head office have no clue what they have to do to help out

Faults:

This little car gives great gas mileage, but the dealer and manufacturer has no clue how to deal with people. The car had some large cracks in the side walls of the tires (Khumo) at 16000 kms. For you U.S. folks that's about 9500 miles. This occurred about 2 years after we had purchased the car. Hyundai Canada had agreed that the tires should be replaced, and I would pay for the difference in what I had used in tread wear.

But the dealer said I would have to deal with the tire manufacturer direct. The tire folks are 200 miles from me.

So I asked them what I should do, since I was not going to drive there. They told me the dealer will adjust the tires and we will send the tires to the dealer, and you pay for what you have used. I said great. The dealer said No.

Even the head office said to the dealer do it.

Since then the service manager has refused to help me out, and Hyundai will not return my calls or emails.

If you ever see a Hyundai dealer, most of them have several other dealerships they sell from as well.

How is it a dealer with a 2 bit bay (2 bays) and four dealerships can service each and every product with one service manager, and no people skills. It can't be done.

Since then we have dumped the car, and have gone to a dealer who has 2 dealerships, two separate car lots, two separate service managers and mechanics. Volvo, Ford, Chrysler, Chevrolet, Mazda etc etc are your better choice. They know the product. Hyundai Canada has no idea.

Fire all the reps, and go find dealers to run Hyundai under one roof.

General Comments:

The Koreans make a good car, but the service manager and head office in southern Ontario Canada needs to learn people skills.

Don't buy any Hyundai product, you will have no backup for warranty.

2000 Hyundai Accent L 1.5 SOHC gasoline

Summary:

Great car for what you pay!

Faults:

Mass air flow sensor.

General Comments:

Overall good car. Replaced the stock tires after 15,000 miles due to poor ride with Goodyear Viva tires.

Rides great and is very cheap on gas!

Best thing any Accent owner can do is use synthetic oil, because you do have to push the car hard to get to speed.

I will own another Accent!!!

2000 Hyundai Accent GS 1.5 Litre

Summary:

Pay for what you get

Faults:

While making an emergency slam-on-the-brakes at a stop sign, both my passenger and driver seats came unlocked, and folded forward. Glad I wasn't actually going fast or on a highway...

Service was absolutely horrendous. Service surrounds the product you buy and is equally important as the product itself. Service was late, rude, condescending, and incorrect.

Sales team quite arrogant and didn't work at selling at end of lease period.

Your comments on Service and Sales are irrelevant to someone who is looking for a review on the car itself. Just because you had a bad experience in your town with your dealer, that doesn't mean it would be the same for anyone else.
