2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS 4 cylinder

Summary:

Good working car

Faults:

So far just the cruise control does not work.

The Dodge dealership messed up the paint job and they won't fix it at all.

General Comments:

The car handles fine.

It is OK on gas, but I am not getting the mileage that I should.

Sometimes it is a bit sluggish.

2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0 DOHC 16-valve

Summary:

Overall the car is a good buy

Faults:

I am having problems with the paint. There are rust spots on the roof, hood, and trunk. It appears as though the clear coat is breaking down.

General Comments:

The driver's side seat can be uncomfortable on long drives.

The visibility is great.

The car seems to run roughly with the air conditioner on. The air doesn't work very well in extreme heat.

I am waiting to see if Hyundai will take care of my paint under the warranty.

2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0 L

Summary:

Good value and performance at a very reasonable price

Faults:

Some problems with tires being poorly balanced.

General Comments:

Overall, quite happy with the Elantra, it's a very good value. However, the dealership was terrible. They engaged in some false advertising on the prices and complained a lot about the Hyundai corporation. They claimed a need to run up the quoted price on the basis of Hyundai not allowing them any kind of significant markup. Despite this and some minor problems with getting tires balanced, I would certainly buy another Hyundai. It's got good power, is reasonably comfortable, but I recommend you not buy it though a dealer, buy it off the internet, which is what I will do next time.

2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0

Summary:

Smooth, comfortable, powerful, and reasonably priced car

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong. I am very happy with my new Elantra.

General Comments:

I bought my Elantra at a dealership in Freehold New Jersey. The sevice was wonderful, and I got a great deal on the car. It is a 2001 with package 2, which includes cruise control and keyless entry. It has a very powerful engine for a car of its size and is surprisingly roomy as well. Although I have not had my car very long, I have done much research on it and so far I love driving it and am completely satisfied.

2001 Hyundai Elantra 1.5

Summary:

No pride in workmanship or in salesmanship

Faults:

Directly following the test drive, I commented on the brakes smelling rather hot. The dealer shook his head, and said, "No, no, that's not the car, that's the auto-shop around back." While I was wary, I was basically impressed with the car. During the second test drive the brakes gave out all together. This was a brand new car, straight off the production line! What's up with that?

General Comments:

Following the first test drive, I placed a deposit on the car of $500.00. After the incident with the shoddy breaks occurred during the second test drive, I decided against purchasing the car, and asked them to refund my $500.00 deposit. They were unhappy but agreed to comply. One month later I still did not have my money. Several phone calls early on brought 'misunderstandings' about them 'forgetting' to refund the money. Finally the manager stopped answering my messages, and it took me going into the dealership and demanding a credit card receipt for the refund in order for them to comply.

The showroom was Burnaby Hyundai in British Columbia. Don't shop there if you value your money!

I did my research and went to the Hyundai Dealership in Nurnaby on E. Hastings to confirm the price for an Elantra VE, that I got from Autobytel as 17,525. After showing me the car and its features and technical aspects and comparing with other vehicles in its class, and having to correct several distortions by me, we proceeded to discuss the price. She insisted this was 18,625 cash price and 17,525 for lease and pointing to 0% financing. When I insisted on a 17525 cash price she turned very aggressive and challenging me to go and get lower price which she would gladly match.

Question I have is we does the government allow such conduct and why are people not demanding action?
