2000 Hyundai Tiburon

Summary:

Good for a first car

Faults:

When I first got my car, everything seemed to run fine, until the warranty ran out.

The catalytic converter messed up, so I had to get it fixed, and the head lights have been replaced numerous amounts of times. Also, it overheats quite a bit.

General Comments:

Other than that, it is a really good car. I do put power steering in it almost on a monthly basic, but I love this car and its stylish body.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0L DOHC 16v

Faults:

The car was excellent for about three weeks after I bought it; then I had strange stalling problems like other people have had, and my check engine light was always coming on.

So I took it back to the dealer, and they said it was normal. I told them it can't be normal if it keeps coming on and staying on soon after it stalled, and would not start.

They tried everything to fix it at my cost; it ended up that the main computer was shot, and what happened was the fuel pump got no power. I took them to court and won; they paid for all repairs.

It seemed to be fine for a while, then the wheel bearings went and then the brand new timing belt I had put in snapped and took out my number four cylinder. An expensive fix; about three grand all said and done (just in parts).

Anyways, the car will be brand new again, so I will see how it goes.

Anyways, have a good one.

Evan.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0

Summary:

Good car.. bad car company!!

Faults:

Idle air temperature sensor went out; that was 200.00 just for a little sensor.

Goes through about 3 sets of headlights a year.

Had do drive home on the freeway in 20 degree weather because my window regulator went out when I was leaving work. It is all fubared, and from what I have been reading about the power windows, it seems to be a big issue with Hyundai owners, and Hyundai is doing nothing about it..

General Comments:

I like the car, it drives great. Had it for 8 years now and put over 160,000 miles on it. It's never anything major, just the annoying little things that just annoy you, and you spend too much time and money fixing them.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon ? 2.0

Summary:

Not sure, looks very sporty, but I don't know much.

Faults:

So far, the only thing I have seen was a small rattle in the trunk when shifting gears.

General Comments:

I'm thinking about buying this car. It will only be the second car I've owned.

I previously had a '97 ford probe and it seems like it is ready to die.

I love sports cars, but I was looking for a cheaper car. I found a nice looking 2000 Tiburon (5 speed) and it seems to ride great. However, I don't know anything about Tiburon cars. I have seen many mixed reviews, but I want to real scoop.

I don't have a Tiburon, but I've read some about it. The body and some of its underpinnings (suspension, I think, but not engine, alas) were designed by the folks at Ferrari. So you could always point that out to any dissenters.

Consumer Reports tested a 2002 Tiburon GT V6 with the 6-speed, and got it to 60mph in 7.9 seconds. That's not bad when compared to the Civic Si, which gets to 60 in 9.0, and is supposedly a high performance machine. In anticipation of angry Civic drivers claiming their stock Civic EX gets to 60 in 4.5, that's great. My data comes from Consumer Reports, not my dreams.

Anyway, if you read the major auto magazines enough (Motor Trend, etc.), you will start to think you have a terrible car. Don't worry, they hate anything not built by Honda. While the Tiburon isn't exactly a top-model Ferrari or Porsche, your car is a good bit sportier than most on the road. The only thing I can think of negative to say is that you might have trouble sticking people in that back seat. Maybe if you really don't like someone, you can trick them into agreeing to ride back there, after convincing them that its apparent size is an optical illusion.

The only Hyundai I've had was a Santa Fe, with a 2.4L 4-cylinder and a 5-speed. They made an excellent combination, despite, again, what I read in auto magazines. It drove like a car, so hopefully your Tiburon will drive better still.

Enjoy the car.
