2000 Hyundai Tiburon SE

Summary:

Awesome, best bang for the buck I've found

Faults:

Really nothing. I find the head lamps are difficult to replace.

General Comments:

This car rocks! I have put it through its paces driving through the Blue Ridge and Adirondack mountains. It is very solid on corners.

The stereo is not very user friendly.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon

Summary:

An expensive piece of garbage

Faults:

Everything you can possibly think of has gone wrong with my car! I will never buy another Hyundai or take one if it was giving to me for free. It has been a huge burden. My brakes don't work properly, the transmission doesn't shift right, the windows get stuck, the tires are horrible, the steering wheel pulls, etc...

General Comments:

Whoever reads this, PLEASE DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI!!! It is the most horrible car & I don't want you to go through the problems I am still having!!!

This is a particularly ambiguous post. If the steering wheel pulls and the tires are bad, replace the tires!

I don't see how windows get stuck... unless you've been in an accident. We need more information about the problem.

What about the brakes? What happens?

That post just sounds bogus to me. It should not have been approved.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon

Summary:

Fun car to drive and looks great

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

I feel that the manual shift is geared too low, it could use a 6th gear.

It handles very good and is very comfortable.

I tend to agree on the gearing. I don't like cruising the highway at 4000 RPM. Love the car though.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon

Summary:

A very sporty car for the price!

Faults:

The driver side seat belt does not retract properly. You have to fool with it for a minute each time you unbuckle.

The CD player began reading as an 'error 6' and would not play any CDs. The warranty replaced the entire player, however it had decided to quit about 20 miles into a 1500 mile road trip.

The hatch back is very noisy.

The back shocks are very squeaky. The only thing the dealership will do is WD-40 them.

General Comments:

There have been a few minor problems, but overall this car is fun to drive and really gets attention.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0L DOHC I4

Summary:

A low cost, excellent performing, nearly all-inclusive, reliable, sleek, and sexy sports coupe

Faults:

Seat belt gets caught on the shoulder bracket if not pulled straight down to the desired length before moving around to clasp. This has been attributed to the retractor in other reviews, but I believe it is really the bracket that is the problem, I haven't seen any problems with the retractor itself.

Headlights both burned out at the exact same instance of turning it on. Dealer replaced (as they were under warranty) and turned the issue over to Hyundai for consideration after finding no over/undercurrent problems or other electrical fault.

Windshield wiper intermittent setting became non-functional after about 5000 miles. This was also replaced under warranty.

Floor-mat clasp, which I am told was redesigned from an integrated floorboard part to a over and under plastic clasp for the 2000 model year, tends to come undone and allow the mat to slip towards the front of the car.

Cup holders are oddly placed directly over the ashtray and under the radio. Which means that if you have say, two sodas from a fast food restaurant in the holder, you now have no ashtray and difficult access to the radio controls.

General Comments:

This car is an excellent buy for the money. With it's great handling and nice pickup combined with the unbeatable Hyundai warranty and standard options, (which include air conditioning and power everything) you can't go wrong.

Unless you are looking for a super-car, and have the budget for it, this is where you should be looking. The styling on the Tiburon is also unmatched. No other car in its class has the sexy lines that this car sports.

I opted for the automatic model of the Tiburon, in hindsight, I probably should have gone with the manual transmission. The car has nice pickup when you lay on the gas with the automatic transmission, but casual driving pickup leaves it feeling a little sluggish in lower speed first gear. However, a little power shifting with the auto can help you blaze past all but the higher end sports cars off the line.

I have nothing but praise for the styling of the interior of the car. Unless of course you are looking for a car for a family of four. The back seat is not really accommodating to anyone over 5'4". However the sleek styling continues to the inside. The dashboard is almost futuristic. And the all vinyl/faux leather door panels and ceiling look absolutely gorgeous with a cleaning and protectant treatment.

After 11,500 miles I am getting about 33mpg highway, 28mpg city. Which is very nice considering the sporty feel of this coupe.

Along with all this and the standard options, which practically none of the other cars in its class come with, the Tiburon is a great car, and I would recommend it to anyone.

I like my Tiburon, but it does have random problems that make me wonder. If it weren't for the great warranty it would be a pain at times. The rear wiper will sporadicly turn on and I can't stop it. I have taken it in to the dealership and they have said it was fixed, but 4 months later it still will turn on occasionally. The head lights have both burned out, one twice and it just seems a little soon for that to happen. The car looks great though. I have a silver one and love it and like everyone else has said people really do stop and ask what kind it is and admire it. I hope they come out with a convertible soon.
