1999 Isuzu Trooper 3.5L

Summary:

This is a bomb-proof rig!

Faults:

I have owned my 1999 Trooper since it had 93k on the odometer.

Right around 125k I had to replace the transmission. The only GM part in the car! It started to shift really sloppy, and despite efforts to constantly keep the fluid topped off (next to impossible - as someone didn't put a dip stick on it), it still died. I replaced the transmission with a used model with 51k on it, and have not had a problem since.

General Comments:

It's a great rig. Very dependable and one of the most long lasting trucks I have ever owned.

It handles well - is still smooth at 70+ mph, and I recently drove it from Atlanta to S. Florida without a single problem.

Sure it eats some oil - they all do. I use about 1.2 qts every 3k.

The 3.5L produces sufficient power - could use a diesel or a more efficient V8. It is bomb proof reliable in my opinion.

I had a friend with a 97, and another with a 98, and both have pushed theirs past 200k. I am 182K and running super strong. It has no rough idles, no shakes, pings, knocks or leaks!!! I love it!

I agree with the 'bomb-proof' analogy, I have a'92 with more than 300,000 kilometeres on it. The body has some rust, but she keeps on running fine. Plenty of room inside and a great smooth ride to boot!

I've just turned over 325k. Only now replacing the fuel tank and fuel sending unit. Water sitting on the tank corroded out the tank. Can't wait to put this mule back on the road. They still make them overseas. Just can't get them here.

1999 Isuzu Trooper S 3.5L

Summary:

A beast

Faults:

Engine started skipping, and then unexpectedly stopped.

General Comments:

This car is wonderful and I love it.

The interior is very nice and the seats are extremely comfortable.

The engine serves me well, and the car has great heat and air conditioning.

My only real complaint is the gas mileage.

1999 Isuzu Trooper S

Summary:

It's the ultimate man's machine

Faults:

All I've done is flush the tranny and fill it with new fluid, replaced brakes and rotors.. that's it!

General Comments:

What a wonderful truck... I had a 96 with every option under the sun... when I sold it to my parents it had 200k on it and it still works great..

I bought a 99 last summer and couldn't be disappointed. I blow pass the Land Rovers, stomp the Jeeps, and pull trucks out of snow banks. This SUV is by far my favorite.

I'm a very active outdoors man. I bought a roof basket with kayak j holders and it looks awesome... however it fits in great at the country club. Sometimes I haul our horses with it, and when I go on vacation to Denver, I never rent a Jeep to go crawling, my Trooper handles it great.

When I got in a 8 car accident on the highway and slid into 4ft of snow, I was the only car to get out on my own.

A trick with the oil consumption >>> use Valvoline synthetic blend... My oil burning problem has ended! quakerstate was tearing it up... enjoy your Trooper!

1999 Isuzu Trooper 3.5

Summary:

Will keep it until the engine blows

Faults:

Replaced brakes, timing belt, serpentine belt at 100,000.

Spark plugs at 120,000.

Also 3 O2 sensors, air flow sensor, idling regulator.

4x4 stopped engaging at around 100,000 and had to be fixed for about $300.

General Comments:

The car burns through oil, like all Troopers.

The engine runs great and is the car very comfortable overall. We've looked for new cars several times since we bought it, but as there are no serious issues, we've held off each time.

The car is also amazing to take off road. It handles great in snow, mud and all kinds of rough terrain. Very rugged but packed with comforts: heated seats, heated mirrors, CD changer, etc.

Will try to keep in running until at least 200,000.
