2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 V8

Summary:

Wonderful, might be a bit quirky though!

Faults:

Recent exhaust leak.

Minor steering wheel fluid leak.

General Comments:

At the time that I'm writing this review, my 2001 Jaguar S-type 4.0 is in the shop for the aforementioned problems. I bought the car as an executive demo, and have had it for over 2 months now.

I recently noticed a loud noise coming from the engine when I started the car in the mornings. I took the car to the dealer and the technician immediately diagnosed an exhaust leak. On top of that, he said that strangely, my Jag is leaking tiny amounts of steering fluid leak. He said this is the first S-type he has seen with this problem.

I'm not familiar with mechanics, but my dad says this is problem not to be expected from any new car, let alone a premium luxury sedan. To make myself feel better, I just associate it with British quirkiness!

Other than that, the ride is excellent especially with my car's optional sports package, and the cabin is very comfortable. My Jag is equipped with everything except the navigation system. I even have the voice activation feature and the integrated cell phone all of which work wonderfully.

On top of that, the car draws looks everywhere it goes and is a blast to drive. I would still chose a Jag over any German or Japanese product any day!

2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 Litre V8

Summary:

A beauty queen on steroids

Faults:

Dash computer failed before I even got home from the dealer! They replaced it right away. No problems since. Jag dealers need to provide loaner vehicles for this class of car. Mine did, but I got some resistance. Come on!

General Comments:

The honeymoon continues...

Jaguars really do have a unique feel to them. The suspension on mine (without the CATS system) is awesome! I was planning on getting a BMW 540i until I test drove the Jag. The steering is just right and it accelerates surprisingly fast for its weight.

Very comfortable throughout. The trunk, excuse me, boot, is too small, but rear seats fold down. A bit greedy with gas.

Congratulations on your purchase - I am very jealous indeed!

2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 Litre V8

Summary:

The best value for a luxury car with performance

Faults:

Not one thing to complain about, other than Jag should have built this car sooner.

General Comments:

This is by far the best car I've ever owned! My previous car was a 1998 BMW 540 and it doesn't compare with the Jag.

The BMW was nice for racing, but how often do you dothat?

The S-Type is fast, comfortable and well designed for everyday use. Not to mention the reasonable price.

After owning an 1988 XJ6, with all the normal frustrating problems I thought I would never own another Jaguar. They (and Ford) proved me wrong.

I own a 2000 Jaguar S Type. It's probably the worst investment I have ever made. The dealer could not repair the coolant sensor so Jag Corporation instructed the technician to disengage it. Does a company have the right to disengage a feature of an automobile under warranty without asking the owner or without some compensation? The justification for doing so was, "the 6-cyliner vehicles don't have one." Every window regulator in this vehicle has been replaced, one at a time. Instead of recalling these vehicles with obviously defective regulators--the technician said hundreds had been replaced--Jag corp repaired them one at a time, hoping, I think, that at least one of them would outlast the warranty, and the owner of the vehicle would have to pick up the tab or at least part of it. That's exactly what happened to me.

The car is in the shop now with a rattling in the front of the engine. For the reasons above--and the fact that the last time I had it at the dealer the technician failed to sufficiently tighten the oil filter--I have my car at a local shop, not the dealer.

There have been other problems.

Ford (Jag Division) has not acted responsibly in these cases.
