2001 Jaguar S-Type 3.0

Summary:

Will never buy it for my worst enemy

Faults:

Unhappy S-Type owner. Let's see, not enough room on this space to cover everything; worst car I've ever owned and the Jaguar Corp should be ashamed of all the complaints they've received regarding this type of Jaguar. You would think they'd want to accommodate some of us. Would never recommend this car to anyone, and if someone were to offer me this car free of charge, I'd rather walk.

Replaced:

Bushings 3x

Driveshaft 3x

Brakes 3x and still counting

Transmission 2x

Steering 1x and on and on.

2001 Jaguar S-Type V8 4 liter

Summary:

Very poor quality and not dependable

Faults:

Transmission comes out of gear while driving and dealer states needs to be replaced.

All coils have had to be replaced as engine will not run properly, misses, barely climbs hills, etc.

Heater out. Dealer says to replace the computer chip is $1000.00.

General Comments:

Although the car looks good and is sporty, it is not reliable. I have had it in the shop more than out it seems. Would never buy an S-series Jag again.

2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 sport edition 4.0

Summary:

Beautiful car. Just don't expect to be able to drive it

Faults:

Valve cover leak.

All 4 window regulators quit.

Rear wiring harness for back lights.

Front and rear sway bars.

Front bushings.

Right rear wheel bearing.

Radio turns on by itself without the keys in the ignition.

Transmission replaced and the new transmission has not lasted even a week.

General Comments:

My wifes BMW 5 series had over 130,000 miles on it so I bought her a very clean 2001 S-type and was going to sell the BMW. When I was rotating the tires right after buying the car I noticed the right rear bearing was bad. Off to the shop to get it replaced. Got it back then noticed the car handled very poorly. Both front and rear sway bars were bad along with the front bushings. To the dealer again.

Check engine light on 3 different times. Gear box failure light on. Off to the dealer again. New transmission.

Get it back windows would not work. All the window regulators were bad. (they all quit working over a week time.)

New transmission now will not stay in drive or go into drive. Off to the dealer again for the 8th time in 4 months.

Did not mention the times I had to take it in for the valve cover leaking or all the lights in the back not working, memory not working or radio turning itself on.

Man, glad I didn't sell that BMW with 130000 miles on it, or we would be walking.

Maybe with all of those electrical problems you bought yourself a flood car... Did you have it checked out for that? Nobody has that many electrical problems unless you own a Cadillac! I would be willing to bet that it was either in a flood or just beat on severely buy someone.. Maybe a lease return???

I bought my 2001 4.0 2 years ago. It is one of the nicest road cars I have ever driven, the handling is superb at 80 mph and over.

Joy does not come without its problems. I have replaced 2 window regulators, Jag wanted $750 each, but the 2001 Lincoln LS uses the same design for $150. Now its time to do the ball joints, Jag wants $2000 for the lowers, I think I will order a set of the Lincoln ones to see if they fit. I hear they are only $800.

With regards to the window regulators the Jag ones are made in France and the Ford ones in Mexico.

2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0

Summary:

Sorry to say I bought an S-Type

Faults:

I've had continual headaches with this car. The following all had to be replaced/repaired in the last 18 months: Transmission, Steering Column, Bushings, Sway Bar, Seat Belts Buckles, Radio (twice) and 2 window mechanisms. I'm just waiting to see what will be next.

General Comments:

I enjoy driving this car (when it is not in the shop). I would not recommend this car to anyone. I feel bad saying that being a die hard Jag fan (I also own a completely restored 1956 XK 140 Jaguar).

The real unfortunate part is that Jaguar has NOT stood behind their product, They have not even returned my complaint phone calls never mind actually doing something about the problem.

I have a beautiful sapphire blue 2000 S-Type. I have had over 20 trips to the dealer because of repeated problems. The most disturbing problems just to name a few is having no brakes, and the sway bar having to be replaced twice. The problem is always corrected. However, I am tired of going to the dealership and I never know what is going to go wrong or at what time. I definitely think I should not have to visit the dealership so often. I have written the home office and have not receive a letter or comment about my concerns.
