1993 Jeep Cherokee Country 4.0L inline 6

Summary:

After owning it for 17 years, I still love it

Faults:

Engine had to be rebuilt at 60,000 -- thank goodness it was under warranty.

4-hi is a little noisy, but it works.

Rocker panel rust on both sides.

Otherwise, the usual expected things: air conditioning blower motor, alternator, tires, etc.

General Comments:

I still own this Jeep because it has been so reliable (except for the engine thing) and fun to drive. It has been off-road through snow dirt bike trail during the winters), mud, timber, streams... I drove 85 miles round trip to work with it for eight years. Except for the rocker panel rust, her paint still looks new, and the interior is in good shape.

She still gathers fans as different family members have driven it, and several teenage friends and family have wished/do wish to 'inherit' it.

Thanks to what a great vehicle this has been, we recently purchased a Grand Cherokee Limited.

The Jeep Cherokee Country should be a classic.

1993 Jeep Cherokee High Output XJ 4.0L

Summary:

Starts up everyday, my kid is safe in it. I'm happy

Faults:

Floor panels on passenger and driver side front and rear completely rusted out by 200,000 miles. A friend of mine works for the highway department. Welder and street signs fixed that situation fairly cheap and quick. Homemade cold air intake.

I have had ZERO problems with this SUV. By far the greatest vehicle I have ever driven. On road and off.

General Comments:

Seats are a little low.

Steering wheel is not adjustable. Handling is great on road and off. Turning radius is almost as good as the Explorers.

4x4 works like a charm, nothing wrong with the transfer case.

2nd gear is a little sticky, but then again it does have 210,000 on it.

Custom blue paint job and interior dash.

I love this vehicle.

1993 Jeep Cherokee Country 4.0 Inline 6

Summary:

This car can hang with the Hondas and Volvos

Faults:

Had the water pump replaced at about 130k.

Had the brakes replaced a couple of years after purchase.

General Comments:

This is the best car I've ever had.

I've driven it all over between Minnesota and Florida. No oil leaks. No fluid leaks. Nothing.

It has performed above and beyond my expectations.

I change the oil religiously every 3k, as well as the transmission fluid (not quite as frequently, of course).

I have done all the service myself in the driveway.

I have ALWAYS been consistent with Castrol 10w-30, and began using Lucas additive about 130-140k.

I now have over 200k on it, and it drives as good as it ever did.

1993 Jeep Cherokee Country 4.0 Liter

Summary:

In a word --- phenomenal

Faults:

Air conditioner died at 200,000.

Valve cover gasket replaced at 230,000.

All hoses and belt replaced at 230,000.

New plugs at 230,000.

Flushed engine, serviced transmission 230,000.

Cruise control is dead.

General Comments:

I can't say enough good things about this car. I'm the original owner. It's a two-wheel drive model. I've driven the absolute CRAP out of it, and it just keeps going.

I've run it 3 quarts low on oil with no problem.

I've had the speedometer pegged more times than I can count.

When the valve cover gasket was leaking, there was oil pooled all over the top of the engine, and smoke used to boil out from the wheel wells.

I burned the brakes up in it, and replaced the rotors.

This thing takes whatever I dish out and keeps going. Yeah sure, it uses oil and smokes a bit now, but who cares. I'll keep it forever. I plan to have it refitted in 2009 (rebuild engine and transmission, fix the a/c and cruise control).

Then I'll have it repainted and drive it another 15 years.

I also have the 1993 Cherokee. It was given to my son 5 years ago at 189,000. It now has 238,000 and is running strong. I never dreamed "the beast" would be with us in 2011. Just the usual repairs, plus the body is like a tank. The whole family loves this car.
