2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0

Summary:

A few quirks, but good bang for the buck

Faults:

I too have experienced the AC problem, haven't had it diagnosed yet. I think it is in the air control box, perhaps a sloppy cable or bad vacuum actuator.

Also my fuel light will come on while the tank is full, and it does sound like perhaps the u-joint and CV axle is going, but I have been four-wheeling a bit, and all in all the car is decent.

I bought it for the 4-wheel drive, which works well if not flawlessly. For a 2000 vehicle with high miles, I got a great buy, only 4500.00 and it lists for 7300.

The body is in great shape as well as the interior. A few quirks, but all in all a good vehicle. Knock on wood.

Sorry to hear of other's problems, but no major complaints here. However I do have larger tires on mine and have not had any steering or vibration problems. Maybe the stock tires are an issue, I don't know. These things were built for off-roading and fun, enjoy it.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Larado 2.9

Summary:

Good

Faults:

For those of you with intermittent starting trouble, it could be the Crank Shaft Positioning Sensor. My jeep would periodically just not start. Wait 5 min, it would start right up. Some times it would take 2 hours. Once 2 days. Then, started right up. I replaced the CSPS and have had no trouble since. As the sensor is located on top of the bell housing, just under the fire wall, it is a very difficult repair. Only the most experienced and patient shady tree mechanics should attempt.

As I recall, I don't think you can actually see it without mirrors, and I think I had to hold the bolt in the socket with gum. Jeep does a wonderful job of making repairs to their vehicles a challenge.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Laredo

Summary:

Would not buy another

Faults:

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has had many of the same problems. I have had two power locks with the grinding sound, and I am currently having an ongoing problem with my passenger side brake light going out. Jeep has done all of us a raw deal with these annoying and costly problems.

General Comments:

This car has lots of minor and annoying problems to include blown speakers, faded headlight lenses. Not good attention to detail from a MFG standpoint.

2000 Jeep Cherokee

Summary:

Could be better

Faults:

The serpentine belt had to be replaced at 70,000, and the air conditioning was serviced a few times too.

General Comments:

I had just bought this car used, and have had a few minor problems until recently.

My air conditioner has been serviced three times in two months, and just recently was given a "$1300 to rip apart the dashboard" quote. Instead of it being the evaporator like I've seen here in other posts, I was told it was the condensor. Either way, from what my mechanic was saying, this is a huge problem with 2000 Jeep Cherokees and there is little that can be done to cut the cost.

If you were told that the dashboard needs to be taken off to replace the condenser, then you are being taken. The condenser is out under the hood in front of the radiator. The evaporator is the component in the dashboard.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L Inline 6 Cylinder

Summary:

The 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport has been a very dependable multipurpose vehicle.

Faults:

Antifreeze was disappearing and no leak could be found. Turned out it was a cracked header and was replaced under manufacturer warranty with just under 70,000 miles on the vehicle. The local dealer also did a comprehensive maintenance overhaul at this same time and I have had no problems since.

General Comments:

This has been a great vehicle that is dependable and very usable for a variety of situations. Gas mileage is not that great at around 18 to 20 MPG, but it is an SUV. I will keep it until it is completely dead. Hopefully I can get 200,000 to 300,000 miles out of it.
