2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0

Summary:

A low maintenance, reliable, top of it's class 'sport' utility

Faults:

Factory wipers needed replaced immediately.

General Comments:

The headlamps remain on for an extended period of time after the vehicle is shut off, locked, and the headlamps are turned off. This feature makes for a convenient walk to the front door or down the walkway early in the morning or in the dark. The vehicle has a comfortable interior spacious setting for long distance driving. The child restraint locks and driver side window controls and window locks are a needed family safe feature as well as the hatch open warning light for on the goer's. The vehicle has plenty of power for any light to light medium and medium to medium heavy towing. I added a power-aid throttle body spacer to ensure of that which gives more horsepower and cool vortex air to the combustion chamber for quick, accurate, and more all around power. I have learned oil changes could be costly because most shops offer deals for up to a five quart change and it takes six to fill this Jeep.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport in line 6

Summary:

Fast, smooth, comfortable, great ride on or off road

Faults:

The low level sensor inside the washer reservoir went, left fog light went, remote car starter will not work, chimes for lights left on and door left open will not work, rear brakes making noise. Driver seat has rip. (Dealer is taking care of all, but the seat)

General Comments:

I love my Jeep, I have found that the 2000 Jeep Cherokee is a strong runner, rides nice, handles easily, looks great, and for what I need to do with it; The best vehicle on the market for me. The live rear end make this little beast, want to get up and go. Too bad they stopped making Cherokees. The only problem is they are in such a high demand. You can't get the price down, someone is always willing to come along and pay ticket price.

A live rear axle does not make it fast, it is the hp and the gearing in the axle that makes it get up and go.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0

Summary:

A great vehicle for the money

Faults:

Driver's side front radio speaker has gone out. Other than that, nothing at all.

General Comments:

Replaced my Chevy truck with this Jeep. Love it! No problems at all.

It is a 2-door model with manual tranny, which suits me perfectly.

Gets great gas mileage. If I drive the speed limit (65 mph) I can get 25-26 on the highway. Can't beat that!

Was looking at Wrangler, but due to family constraints, went with this instead. Will look at Wrangler with the kids get older.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 I6

Summary:

It's what happens when the wrangler grows up

Faults:

Engine needed replacing at 46k, due to faulty oil pump from factory. Replaced at mostly their cost (5k for job I paid 1500 the covered rest very nice since it was out of warranty.)

Intermittent problem with passenger side power window switch. Always worked from drivers not so from passenger.

General Comments:

This car was my first new car and really was a good experience.

It has plenty of power and handled really well for its size. It really had the power to get out into traffic fearlessly.

I was very impressed with this jeep, I'm a car guy all the way, but this was a company car and I couldn't help, but really enjoy owning it. It performed great in the snow, rain and mud.

It's like a grown up wrangler, all the jeep go anywhere attitude, but enough maturity to be useful to those not in high school anymore. Plenty of cargo room and spacious front. A few complaints from friends about space in the back, but not something I had to deal with.

All in all, I regret giving it up and may very well purchase another one as a fun second car.

OH! I forgot. There is one downside to owning this car, it's an absolute pig on gas, with something like 17 and 20 it made commuting a bit more expensive than I would have liked, but that is kinda minor.

My Cherokee Classic has a similar problem with the passenger window controls working intermittently, but it always works from the drivers controls.

Did you fix it? If so, what did you do?
