1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD 4.0

Summary:

Best I have had to date

Faults:

Replaced front axles once. Normal brake wear and replacement. Replaced starter just recently.

Normal oil changes.

General Comments:

Knock on wood after 280K it just keeps going and going. Best vehicle I have ever owned. I do normal maintenance and never take it to a dealer for service. Something breaks and it gets fixed however nothing ever breaks.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Summary:

Would not recommend this car to anyone!

Faults:

My front axles had to be replaced at 140,000. The oil pump went out around 145,000. The passenger door doesn't unlock anymore. The passenger front seat doesn't move anymore because the electric device has went out. Now, I am being told by my mechanic that the motor may have to be replaced to correct problems with my coolant that drains out everyday! It is also beginning to have trouble starting, although the battery, alternator and starter have been checked and work fine, and the alternator was just replaced about 400 miles ago.

General Comments:

This year of Jeep Cherokee's seem to be a money pit. But other than these problems, I love it. I just can't keep putting money into this every month.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 Liter

Summary:

The best vehicle both on and off road

Faults:

I have only had 1 problem with my Jeep in the 2+ years I have owned it. I have put 40,000 miles on it and the only problem I have had is the water pump went out at 115,000 miles.

General Comments:

Jeeps are the best vehicles made. They are comfortable, can tow more than most will need, have more than enough room to haul stuff inside, and are AMAZING at off-roading. I take my jeep off-road about once a month and the only time I have even been stuck is when I was in thick mud up to my doors. My jeep is basically stock. The only upgrade is a dealership 1" lift, side bars (not running boards), and a brush guard. I have taken it on multiple trips from Ohio to Oregon with no problems. Even in a Level 3 snow emergency, I drove around on the roads without slipping when every other car was in the ditch or couldn't even make it out of their driveway. My jeep is still running strong and I plan on driving it until it dies (which will be quite a while). The only way anything would go wrong with it is if I didn't take care of it by doing the usual maintenence (oil changes, new air filters, etc). I will DEFINITELY buy another jeep if this one ever dies. Prior to this, I had a 93 Jaguar XJ6 and a month did not go by where I did not have it in the shop. I put in over $9,000 in repairs in less than a year before I finally sold it and bought my Jeep. I will never own anything else.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.2

Faults:

Radiator developed a leak at 106000 miles.

General Comments:

This SUV is one of the quickest 4X4's that I have ever driven.

The suspension is also one of the most comfortable and least punishing.

The interior is very plush and the controls are easy to access.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee larado 5.2 V8

Faults:

13000 I replaced shocks/water pump

At 150000 I had the trans go $1600 for that!

I have done brakes only once since buying did myself $95.

I have had a problem w/stalling runs fine then slow down or stop and poof stalls, but starts right up and then stalls if you don't keep gassing it from what I have read here sound like fuel pump and $500 dollars!!

General Comments:

I have driven this jeep 80 miles a day for all most 5 years all and I it only left me walking once not too bad for the miles.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition V8

Summary:

Very good

Faults:

The driver's door won't shut.

This is from the door being cracked at the lock. Doors on (all) Jeep's are not a safety item in California. This was told to me by a California Highway Patrolman.

General Comments:

The overall driving and handling of this vehicle is the best car I have owned.
