2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Lerado

Summary:

It is comfortable and handles my steep dirt roads well

Faults:

The passenger side Window motor went bad. This is only a 4 year old Jeep and I was kind of surprised it went out so soon. What I really need is for someone who has replaced one of these motors to tell me how to get the old Motor/regulator assembly out of the door. I have dis-assembled the door panel and have loosened the assembly. However, there are some regulator cables holding it in place. Also, the instruction guide that came with the new motor states that I should drill a hole in the regulator body and secure the "Sector"? gear with a sheet metal screw.

Does anyone know how to get this thing out?

Thanks

John.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L

Summary:

Falls apart after warranty period

Faults:

From the start on the transmission clunks.

The flap for diverting the ventilator heat to the front passenger & drivers feet is not working. A teddy bear stuffed at the drivers side open this flap now always. Do not want to know what it costs to repair this. With 0F and a bunch of snow in Michigan heat in your car gets important.

After a drive down to Florida and up-wards to Michigan my engine does not run stable anymore. Plugs and cabling was changed and fuel system cleaned. Still not 100% fixed.

At 58000 Miles On the highway suddenly 2 sensors fro engine gave up resulting in several large kickbacks at 70Miles/hour.

300$ repair.

At 60000 Miles left passenger door module failed to work. Door could not be locked. Cost around 100$ for spare part only.

At 64000 Miles the steering column has several issues. Need to replace several items. Cost 700$. As well recently the battery was empty after not using the car for a week. No failure was located at dealer. Every 3000 Miles I change my oil which is also a pain.

General Comments:

After investing almost 2000$ in 1.5 year I'm considering selling my car.

Inside it looks good and has a lot of space.

I am now replacing the door lock for a second time at $250!

I have bought numerous bulbs to try to fix the tail light and found out it had a short in it. That is costing me $200 today!

I am putting more money into this car than I care to spend!

I am going back to my reliable BMW!

I have a 1995 Grand Cherokee and experience exact same issues including driving lamps, where the bulbs are retained by a "paper-clip". My window motors, electric door locks and factory alarm system all have failed or mal-functioned. I am very disapointed in Jeep.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7

Summary:

It needs to have a brake recall

Faults:

10,000 Miles, the front rotors warped.

20,000 Miles, the front rotors warped again.

30,000 Miles Warped again.

35,000 Miles air conditioning leaked.

45,000 Miles front rotors warped.

General Comments:

This car starts reliably and we haven't had any engine problems.

Jeep has a serious problem with the front brakes warping. I have never had a vehicle that required this much brake maintenance. We own other Chrysler makes and the brakes are fine.

I have had the same brake trouble. 2 dealers tell me it's the way I drive. I have a 1996 that doesn't have this problem. I also have been a Pa. State Safety Inspection mechanic for 14 years and this is total BS. Do I get help, or just sell it. Thanks for any help! WA.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Summary:

A great all around family car, with a few bugs

Faults:

The only real complaint has been with the brakes.

General Comments:

The steering wheel shakes when you approach 55 mph and you need to have a good hold on the wheel when you apply the brakes. To the best of my knowledge the rotors have never been replaced, but they will be SOON. I think I'm going to buy an aftermarket set for all 4 wheels that are over sized, drilled and grooved for cooling.
