2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Summary:

Nice looking vehicle wiht some serious limitations for the money

Faults:

Front brake rotors warped and were replaced at my insistence at 2000 miles.

Factory recall for manifold heat shield in 2002.

OEM Goodyear Wranglers were horrible in wet weather and did not wear well. They were replaced at 28,000 with good mix of city and interstate miles.

Cannot get enough leg room in front driver's seat.

General Comments:

The 4.0 is under powered for interstate driving.

The car rides well, but is somewhat noisy.

The leg room issue for driver comfort may preclude me from purchasing another Grand Cherokee. I cant drive this car for more than two hours even wiht the fully adjsutable power seats.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L

Summary:

A high quality vehicle

Faults:

I had to have the rotors trimmed.

I need new tires, but it's been 30,000 miles.

The gear shift was sticking around 20,000 miles, the dealer replaced it under warranty without any problems.

General Comments:

This is a perfect SUV for someone who loves the looks and doesn't need anything too large.

The seats are a little uncomfortable for long distance trips.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L Power Tech V8

Summary:

I was shocked at the cost for the 30,000 miles service

Faults:

The power mirror on the driver's side often loses its adjustment and points toward ground when the car door is opened with the remote.

Vibration while braking.

Fuel gauge reads incorrectly, showing a greater amount of fuel than is actually in the tank.

Growl heard in front end while turning right.

Extremely long crank time to start the engine.

General Comments:

I researched the following technical service bulletins on Alldata.com for my vehicle and brought the list to the Jeep dealer.

The dealer told me that the mirror points to ground because I do not know how to program the mirror correctly, so they did it for me. However, that did not solve the problem and the memory only holds intermittently, and at times the drivers side mirror still points to the ground. I cannot find a TSB regarding the mirror memory problem, although there should be one as there are other complaints.

There was a technical service bulletin #05-005-01A issued Sept. 2001 regarding brake pulsation. At 23,000 miles, the dealer replaced the front brake calipers and rotors free of charge.

The dealer replaced the fuel sending unit free of charge to correct the incorrect fuel gauge reading. The dealer said there is a TSB on that, but I do not see it on the Alldata listing.

There was a technical service bulletin #19-06-00 issued Sept. 2000 for front end growl or honk in right turns. Dealer replaced the steering gear box free of charge per TSB at 24,000 miles.

The was a technical service bulletin #14-002-01 issued May 2001 for the fuel pump - Long cranking time to start engine. Dealer replaced the fuel pump at 24,000 miles, free of charge.

It is a little expensive, but I would recommend this SUV over any other

Faults:

I have had my G.C. for 3 years now, and have had no problems other than the rotors @ 13000 miles.

General Comments:

I am on my 3rd G.C. and have had no problems with any of them.

First G.C. was a '95

Sound system is very good.

Only complaint that I have is the gas mileage.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8

Summary:

Not worth the money with a $3,000 discount!

Faults:

Six sets of electric door Locks, have been replaced and it is in the shop for # 7. Every door lock has been replaced at least once, and some 2-3 times.

Shift when first started up is very slow.

General Comments:

Grand Cherokee is very unlike a regular Cherokee. Much more comfortable, and much more unreliable. Mileage on the Cherokee with a manual beats the Gand Cherokee with an automatic.
