2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4.0 Liter

Summary:

There's nothing else like it. But it may not be for you

Faults:

At about 7500 miles, the dealer had to replace a circuit board for the Sentry anti-theft system. This was done under warranty.

Very hard to figure out how to replace the blasted jack in its fitted space under the seat.

General Comments:

This is my second Wrangler, and the TJ series (1997 to present) is a vast improvement over my older YJ (1987 to 1996). Most notably, the suspension is greatly improved, handling is better, and ergonomics inside the vehicle are much nicer.

This Jeep has been a very reliable vehicle. Just one fault, aside from regular maintenance. I've driven it off road only rarely; it's mostly a city-street commuter.

Before buying a Jeep, make sure you realize you're not buying a car or even a conventional sport utility. You're buying a vehicle that was designed for off-road use. No, I drive mine off road only once in a blue moon. And I could certainly find a more comfortable and economical vehicle in which to drive to work. But I like Jeeps. There's a lot to be said for having a nimble, reliable, all-weather vehicle (especially here in the northeastern US) that can take abuse and punishment, and still look great!

Also, Jeeps are one of the very few vehicles that actually look better with age.

Jeeps are not appropriate for people who like to drive fast, or who have long, high mileage freeway commutes. They're bumpy, noisy, and even after years of practice, it still takes a good five minutes to put up or take down the soft top. Trust me, it's not a push button operation.

So if you want to cruise at high speed, in comfort and style, listening to your killer audio system -- please, buy something else!

My last car was a Jeep. My next car will be, too.

I would like to comment on my 2000 Sahara Wrangler. I have done numerous burnouts (rear wheel spins) and it has not hurt the dana44 hardly at all. Only the transfer box chains and yoke seem to suffer the most. Also I would like to say that I have had to replace the A/C knobs already as they cracked. I am not very happy with the level of help from manufacture as to tech. questions I have had. Especially regarding the condenser seals and related equipment. All in all, I am really happy with this vehicle and agree with your survey. Note: This vehicle is not very good on fuel economy, but is great for good comments and compliments from other drivers. I too have a 2000 Sahara, and I am VERY pleased with it. This is my second Jeep, the first one was a 94 Wrangler 4 banger *sucked*, but this one is a keeper. Can wait till the Hemi's come out in 07.

The TJ Wrangler is certainly more car-like than the YJ Wrangler, but a "Vast Improvement"?

I've owned both and prefer the more "Jeep-Like" YJ, to the

"Car-Like" TJ.

The YJ's are reliable, rugged, easy to work on, and practically bullet-proof.

The TJ's are certainly more refined as far as ride & comfort go, but I'll take the AMC design over the Chrysler design (complete with weird electrics) anytime.

2000 Jeep Wrangler SE 2.4L Four Cylinder

Summary:

An excellent affordable all terrain vehicle

Faults:

Original Single Layer Soft Top had to be replaced twice due to faulty stitching.

Driver Side Sun-visor had to be replaced due too bad stitching.

General Comments:

Very good all terrain vehicle. I have been able to go just about anywhere without getting stuck.

The soft top assembly (to include the side windows) is very easy to work with. The OEM factory Sailcloth Top that is on the vehicle now makes for a very comfortable and quiet ride at high speeds.

The mechanically operated Dual Range 4wd system is extremely simple yet reliable.

Although factory rated to tow 2000 lbs, I have used this vehicle to tow trailers weighing 2500 lbs or more without any trouble to the engine and power-train.

This is a very versatile vehicle that is more than cost effective to upgrade and/or add vital accessories to. The simplicity and reliability of this vehicle is outstanding.

The starting price for this vehicle was less than all the other vehicles in it's class that I looked at in 2000, and it was the only vehicle that came standard factory equipped with 4wd and a safety roll cage. All though not as comfortable as the other vehicles that I looked at, it is by far the best, most reliable, and most fun.

Great comments, I own a 2000 Wrangler sport as well and really enjoy it. In regards to towing more than the rated 2000 lbs, the engine and trans are very capable of towing well over twice the 2000 lbs. However, the short wheel base of the vehicle makes towing higher weights unsafe during quick moves and rapid breaking. I am certain that is what dictates the low towing limit of only 2000 lbs set by Jeep.

Regards.
