2002 Kia Sedona EX

Summary:

A time consuming liability

Faults:

Has a problem that cannot be "reproduced" according to the dealer.

General Comments:

The car is inexpensive.

The leather interior is great for some baby spills. The sunroof is wonderful.

However, frequent dealer visits that are time and cost ineffective.

Particularly, disheartening when obvious problems are beyond the dealers diagnostic capabilities.

2002 Kia Sedona EX V6

Summary:

Don't be suckered in by the low price, features, and warranty--it is unreliable junk!

Faults:

Driving off the lot, the A/C recycle light didn't work correctly. (wouldn't stay lit and never has worked right)

When we got home, the home link system wouldn't work and never has after three months any many attempts to program it.

Minor issues such as shoddy interior parts (minor problems). Overall, I expected that because it was a cheap car.

The brakes started making a "pop" sound around 3,000 miles when we slow to a crawl. It sounds like we're being rear-ended by a bicycle. Dealership said they can't reproduce the problem or find any issues. They are not very willing to help or fix problems.

Finally, last week at 4000 miles, it wouldn't start. It was not a battery problem--the horn would blow, lights and stereo would come on, but it didn't even make a noise when you'd turn the key all the way. We were lucky this happened in our driveway. So much for reliability. We had it towed to the dealership and they said it started when it got there and that they couldn't find anything wrong.

General Comments:

We've always stuck with Toyota in the past because they are excellent for reliability. But we needed a minivan and didn't want to spend 30k on a Toyota minivan.

Buying the Kia was a big mistake. It is a piece of junk.

I'm going to take the initial depreciation loss (after three months of owning) and dump it as soon as I pick it up from the shop.

I'm going to buy a Toyota Highlander. Whatever you do, please don't make the costly mistake I did. Spend a few extra grand and get a car made anywhere besides Korea and by anyone, but Kia.

2002 Kia Sedona EX V6

Faults:

The engine blew at 3000 miles. the dealership has the opportunity to fix it. Since returning it to me, a month later, its been back twice in a week. The speedometer will not function properly.

I have now read several complaints about these cars, and heard a lot of stories from dealerships.

These vehicles are like Russian roulette, you never know if you'll dodge the bullet. It appears I have not.

Please buyer beware of this cheap excuse of affordability. Can you afford to be without your vehicle for over a month, stuck in some stinky loaner car?

2002 Kia Sedona ex

Summary:

Over all a great vehicle for the money excluding the windshield

Faults:

We had the car a few thousand miles and the windshield cracked. It appeared to be a stress crack and started under the black windshield trim. We had the windshield replaced and now at 7000 miles it cracked again. The crack once again started under the black trim. As we are waiting for the new windshield the current one has cracked for a second time in a new area.

General Comments:

We live in a mountain area and the car climbs the mountain with no problems. The power of the vehicle is great.

Over all a very good vehicle for a family of 5.

I hope that I have just had bad luck with the 2 windshields and windshield number 3 will be O.K.

Hello:

I came to this website looking for information on my cracked windshield. My 2002 Kia Sedona is beautiful, runs like a champ and is the best vehicle I have ever owned. One day the windshield cracked, about 6 long directly from the black rubber on the bottom left side. There is no impact mark, no dings just a large crack.

This morning I took it into Kia and the first rep ran his pen along the line and said.. "see here where the pen is.. that is a point of impact. There is no way Kia will replace this." I was so upset. There is NOTHING there. So I ask for a 2nd opinion and he couldn't see anything there and felt it was a stress crack. The Kia rep is there today and he too is going to look at it.

The only way Kia will replace the windshield is if the manager of the dealership AND the Kia rep agree it is a stress crack. Good luck there.

I don't want to turn anyone away from Kia. I truly am in love with my van and will get another one one day.

Keep in mind I am saving each and every comment I see posted about the cracked windshields. My goal is to collect enough of them to send a complaint to Kia.

Lisa.
