2007 Kia Sorento LX 3.5 gasoline

Summary:

Very nice car that I love to drive!

Faults:

When I step on the gas hard, the engine lags for about 3/4 of a second until it speeds up, but once you get it going, it's quick to accelerate!

When I first bought it, the passenger seat would show that the passenger air bag was off with a 180lb person in the seat; sent it to the dealer, and they fixed it right away.

General Comments:

Great gas mileage, 22 MPG average.

Very quick car! 0-60 in about 7 seconds, which is quick for the 17k price tag and the vehicle it is.

Looks great with all around tinted windows, blacked out wheels, and tinted tail lights with chrome rings around the STOCK rims.

Handles very nicely, at 20 mph or 100 mph.

Lots of cargo space, and very good for going on trips with 4 people in it.

I get lots of complements on this car.

but I replaced the battery after 4 years and 39000 miles.

I consider myself a skilled mechanic, and most of all an honest one. I declined most advanced electrical diagnostics for Kia products, because they are nightmares and lack support. Vulnerable wiring and name it. Valve train noise at startup is common to lack of maintenance, but not all engines will endure it forever.

Summary:

Moneypit

Faults:

I had bad vibration when applying the brakes. I had to have the front rotors machined at 13,300 miles.

I now have 20,800 miles and have to get front and rear rotors machined. Dealer is charging me $240 for this. Kia brake warranty expires at 12,000. I will be filing a complaint with the NHTSA. I have read many others have the same problem.

General Comments:

I loved the vehicle until I started having these problems. I will never buy another Kia, and will tell anyone considering one the same.

Try to hold on a little longer... maybe you will have only a few problems with the car... keep all your receipts in case public relations at the dealership or the corporate office see it your way. That shouldn't happen to a fairly new car... also, in case there is a recall down the road on brake problems... a lot of problems on cars will show up early on, then go away, or show up later in the car's life... Cars are not a good investment... Even a Honda Fit with cheap costs to keep it up, will cost about $27,000 to own over a five year period...

Also, before you buy any car/SUV/truck... read reviews in Carsurvey here on this website, but also read Consumer Reports annual auto issue that comes out once a year... read it cover to cover 2 times, and you will know a lot about cars by the time you are done...

2007 Kia Sorento EX

Summary:

If you live next to a servicing dealership, buy one

Faults:

The car was delivered with a torn seat, broken moon roof, rear hatch that wouldn't close, passenger air bag that sometimes turned on, sometimes didn't.

It took over a month to get the seat replaced. The air bag and hatch have never been fixed. They told me to keep slamming the rear hatch and eventually it would break in. It hasn't.

At 3K the car started shuttering when starting off in forward and reverse. After a few visits (80miles round trip) they finally got the part. The dealer and Kia didn't know where it went. Can you believe that! We have to return again. Good thing gas is so cheap!

General Comments:

Two dealerships have dropped their franchises since I bought this 10 months ago. I now have to drive 40 miles each way to get the car fixed.

As a second time Kia owner I expected more. The first one was a little rough around the edges and I traded it in at a little over 15K miles expecting to get more than I had. What a mistake!

This one will be lucky to make it to 7K before I get rid of it.

Pluses:

Much improved ride, great power, better, but not good gas mileage, comfortable.

Negatives

Poor brakes, Unreliable, Poor Service- Too bad.

I brought a Kia Sorento in 2007. Wish I never did. At less than 3k it needed new rotors and brakes. Bearing gone on rear end, and has never been corrected after going to dealership over and over. Always diagnosed with a different problem rather than the correct one. Kia would rather try to adjust a part than put a new one on. What is the warranty for?

This is my first Kia and my last. The price I paid was ridiculous, it should have been free. Let's not forget the rain. It's quite embarrassing to get off work on a rainy day and have to sit in a wet seat.

If you have nothing else to do with your day I recommend buying a Kia, you can wait in their shop all day.

2007 Kia Sorento ex

Summary:

I've owned 21 vehicles and this is the worst purchase I've ever made!

Faults:

My rotors had to be replaced at 500 miles and again at 9500 miles. Now the vehicle is at the dealership again with the same issue and only 11500 miles.

I have had the transmission shutter at 60 and 65 mph with no explanation. The dealership refuses to acknowledge a problem. Now it shutters at 30-40 mph and at 60-65 mph. The dealership has yet to repair it.

The passenger door will not shut if the vehicle is locked with the auto door lock button while the passenger door is open.

The dome light has never worked properly.

The back glass door (hatch) will not open with the key control consistently.

General Comments:

The car is a maintenance nightmare; rotors 3 times in 12k miles. The Service manager actually told me I couldn't use the brakes going down a hill! I live in the mountains. The dealership is in the mountains. The vehicle is comfortable and rides well, but in no way shape or form would I buy another or recommend these vehicles, at any cost, to someone else. Even if the vehicle was free I would have spent the equivalent of a car payment each month on just the items I've mentioned.

Sounds like a Kia/Hyundai. We won our's and its been more or a nightmare than anything else. The dealers are bent on making money when you bring the car in for warranty service.

Given that I've literally read hundreds of reviews of the 2007 model Sorento, most by very happy owners, it seems as if you got a dreaded lemon. Sorry about that; it's totally a bummer, and an expensive one at that!

Shouldn't you have returned the vehicle ASAP when it started having significant problems at low mileage? That's what the "lemon law" is for after all...
