2000 Mercury Cougar V6 2.5 litre 24v DOHC

Summary:

I love this car and wish that they would have kept making them!

Faults:

The only thing I have had go wrong with this car was the sensor for the coolant does not properly operate. It comes on all the time now, however, I have not fixed it because it is not a big deal to me. Everything else on the car has operated without defect.

General Comments:

I love this car and if they were still making it I would consider buying a new one.

It does lack in power, I would really like to have the V8 still available, however, the fuel economy is super, I regularly get 29 mpg highway and 24 city.

2000 Mercury Cougar 2.5 Liter V6

Summary:

Just a little more power would have made this a true profit car for Mercury

Faults:

20,000 Miles- Trunk Chime would not shut off.

60,000 Miles- Alternator as well as Idle Air Control Valve.

68,000 Miles- Both Left and Right Front wheel bearings and hubs.

Everything else has been the usual wear and tear type items- brakes, tires, battery, spark plugs, wires, etc.

General Comments:

For the most part this has been a good, dependable car. I thought it rather odd that the wheel bearings went at 70,000 miles as the design for these cars is meant to last longer.

The car is great on gas on the highway. I've seen interstate stretches where I've achieved 34-35 MPG with the A/C running.

The drive-train needs more oomph, especially down low in the rev range. My other vehicles are both highly modified and produce well over 350 HP each so I may be a little biased in this aspect. The transmission also has a couple of dead spots. That is to say when traveling at certain speeds and a need for a lower gear is needed, dropping the gas pedal to the floor will only open up the throttle body and no down-shift will occur. Not a big deal with a large, torquey motor, but the 2.5 isn't a very large or torquey motor.

The stock stereo in the car is surprisingly clear and has lots of volume for when your in the mood for crankin' up the tunes.

I have yet to be in another car that is as sure-footed in the snow. I've never been stranded in the driveway and missed work because of an ice storm with this car.

Don't put too much effort into your review, now.

2000 Mercury Cougar 2.5 V6

Summary:

Nice looks, cheap to operate, fun and reliable!

Faults:

The only problem that I have had with the car is the light for the coolant goes on, but there is nothing wrong with the coolant. Other than that, the car has been trouble free, and I get 30 MPG driving to and from work, and over 32 MPG at 70MPH cruising.

General Comments:

The car has unique looks, has great handling, even in the snow (the 5 speed helps), the transmission and gears are perfect, and a decent sound system. Good overall car, cheap to own and operate. Back seats are for kids/teens only though.

2000 Mercury Cougar V6

Summary:

Good car

Faults:

Defective Fuel Pump.

General Comments:

The car is wonderful.

It is the manufacturer I am not happy with. I had my fuel pump become defective and my car will not run below a 1/4 of a tank of gas. Ford will not help me fix it. They say since I did not get a recall, my car is not approved for assisance. This has really gave me a bad feeling for Ford. I will not buy another Ford product because if they leave it out of a recall you will have to pay for a Ford defect, which is not my fault.

2000 Mercury Cougar c2 2.5L V6

Summary:

If your willing to put up with a few problems, it's a quick, cute, fun car

Faults:

The gas pump went out on the second day I owned it, which was fixed under dealer warranty, Then went out again which was fixed by my extended warranty, and then a third time.

The power steering pump has went out twice. The first time at 35,000m.

I have had two hose problems, Radiator hose, power steering hose.

The sunroof broke, at about 50,000m.

The hatch will never pop, if I try to open it from the inside of the car the latch sticks, I have to use the button on my remote and push down on it.

And now the most current problem, the exhaust came disconnected, so it sounds like a boat and I can't even drive it until it gets fixed.

General Comments:

I like the overall look of the car. It's a cute, rounded car.

The seats are VERY comfortable,...well the front ones.

Its pretty quick and handles well, except on ice.

LOTS of space in the trunk, and the seats fold down.

I've had this car awhile and even through all of its problems Its been a fun and an overall okay vehicle.
