2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.4

Summary:

Reliable, fast and economical - perfect!

Faults:

Nothing major so far; the car has been reliable during the 6,000 miles I have put on it. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way.

General Comments:

I had originally looked for a V6 due to the style and beautiful lines of the car, but had so much trouble trying to find a good condition manual that I gave the 4 cylinder a shot. I took my time in finding the right one, a very well kept one owner GS manual, and am now glad that I looked at the 4 cylinder, because the car is just great.

It handles and performs very well, especially with an AEM cold air intake installed; it sounds and performs like a bigger engined vehicle, yet the fuel economy is still good.

The silver paint is amazing and always turns a head.

My only complaint is the wind noise with the roof fully opened, but not that big of a deal.

Overall I am very satisfied with the car; it looks amazing, is reliable, quick and gets great fuel economy. I think I will keep this car for a while before looking at anything else, although the new shape Eclipse is starting to grow on me, so maybe?

I now have 73,000 miles on the car and have not had a single problem. Some slight rattles from the dash are annoying, and long drives are tiresome due to road noise etc. but it is a sports vehicle after all. Road holding is exceptional, and am averaging 30+ mpg with regular gas on highway driving is not too bad either, the V6 needs higher octane gas which was one of the reasons why I settled on the 4 cylinder. Overall the car is pretty reliable, and I'm not sure if I want to keep it for a few more years or get something a little bigger for the comfort and smoothness factor.

Good, reliable, and worth the money

Faults:

So far, it has been a very reliable car. No problems with the car.

General Comments:

The sun roof switch keeps coming off, but is easily fixed.

The car has a bit of road-noise, but it's not too bad.

Blind spot is a problem, and takes some practice.

2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS

Summary:

Fun, but noisy and unreliable

Faults:

AC compressor and AC clutch blew at 44,000 miles.

Rattling noise from dashboard.

Sunroof button keeps on coming off.

Hatch open button needs to be pressed at least 2 times before it opens.

General Comments:

I bought this car thinking it was going to be a performance car which would be comfortable and safe. The car handles exceptionally well and has performed fine even in the snow. It is not as fast as I expected, but it is the four cylinder.

I only have a few complaints. Gas mileage is not as great as I expected and sometimes I get very dissapointing mileage. Car is driven carefully and is never abused. It has never required more than regular oil changes and flushes. The filter is great and has not been changed in 20,000 miles. Every mechanic says it is still in perfect condition.

There is a rattling noise from the dashboard which will only go away if I open and close the glovebox. There is a lot of plastic in the car and the blindspots are horrible.

The hatch/trunk keeps on getting stuck which is annoying. The sunroof button keeps on getting displaced.

I was surprised when the whole AC and clutch went out at 44,000 miles. Dealer refused to cover it even though it was a month ou of warranty and charged me $150 to just look at it for 30 seconds and tell me what was wrong. They would not even quote prices without charging the diagnostic fee. To add insult to injury, they said it would be $1800. They quoted me seperately for the AC and AC clutch as if they did not go together. I got it done at another mechanic for under $600. Still, my dad had a 4Runner and its AC clutch did not go out till close to 200,000 miles.

My moonroof button also pops off, but it hasn't come off in a while. The car is sometimes noisey, I hear plastic rattling... the backside of the passenger seat came out and I had to hit it back into place. Other than that I get good gas mileage - about 580 km a tank. The car has good handling, but it sucks in the snow.

I would never buy this car again...
