1990 Nissan 240SX 2.4 Liter I-4

Summary:

A refreshing alternative to the Cliche Civic

Faults:

Exaust Heat Shielding rattled due to rust when bought.

Sterio was blown.

Windshild washer fluid pump needs replacing.

Rear spoiler caused rust in hatch and was removed.

Brake system as a whole is weak. An aftermarket, 300zx, or Q45 brake upgrade highly recommended

General Comments:

This car represents a ideal example of a high schooler's car. It's good-looking, handles great and isn't too slow. The often denounced KA24 truck engine has bulletproof reliability, it can be thrashed like nothing else and still starts every time. The insurance isn't too expensive and mileage is pretty good. The only negative points of the car is its age and the confidence you gain driving it. You wish you could have owned it when new and its comfortable cruising speeds are never at or below the speed limit. Winters are a fun challenge, all-season tires help a ton. Hard to think of any new cars that offer this combination of lightweight 2+2 RWD "sport"compact perfection.

A great daily driver.

1990 Nissan 240SX 2.4 inline four cylinder

Summary:

LIL Red Rocket

Faults:

Nothing really, all that is wrong with it is that the paint on the front bumper chipping away and that the spoiler was make of ply-wood, so naturally it started to rot and got floppy,

General Comments:

Over all this is a great car. The car handles like a dream and with the 5-speed manual transmission it is a blast to drive. the interior give you the effect that you are driving a formula race car. The car is extremely quick when it comes to acceloration.

When I got my 240sx it had no spoiler, but I put in my own aluminum spoiler... so far no problem... and man does it look hot. got a question... what is the difference between the hatchback and hatchback SE... cause I don't know which one mine is (1990 by the way)

1990 Nissan 240SX SE 2.4 liter

Summary:

Performance Bargain

Faults:

Nothing it is a great car. In the two years I've had it all I had to do was replace the clutch.

General Comments:

Unblievable first car. You cannot beat the performance for the price. It drives great and the ride comfort is even better. If you are looking for a car that can be sup-ed up very cheap. The engine will not die. I have done a few performance mods to it and I still have had no problems with the engine. There is also the bonus fact of getting a rear wheel drive car out of an import.

1990 Nissan 240SX Hatchback 2.4 ka24e

Summary:

Sell your Honda and get a real car a Nissan

Faults:

When I bought the car the antenna was broken, no biggie. um other than that every thing was in perfect working order for a 90.

General Comments:

If you're a poor college student and your seeking lots of performance in a car get a Nissan 240sx its cheap its fun and it TURNS I recently installed g-pro full-coil-over suspension on it and it turns like a go-kart. With its stock single cam 5-speed it gets off the line, but who needs that much hp when you can have torque.

1990 Nissan 240SX SE Hatchback 2.4L non-turbo

Summary:

Reliable, affordable, fun, rear wheel drive sports car

Faults:

Age. At 12 years old, showing signs of wear, but it still runs like the energizer bunny. The front tension rod bushings starting to deteriorate which would give a high speed rattle. Replaced with polyurethane ones. Had to replace alternator at 160k miles. It is slowly leaking oil at the oil pan, but not a show stopper. I plan to replace the seal when I have time. Tires have to of course be replaced soon. Other than that I can't ask for a better daily commute.

General Comments:

Although North America never got to see the 200+hp SR20DET turbo version that would have made this car very popular, it is still a very fun, reliable, and affordable car to own. Since it is based on a truck motor (140hp), these cars can take a fair amount of abuse and neglect and still runs. When it reaches 300k miles, I plan to treat it with a SR20DET transplant though. Unlike many of today's FWD "sports" cars, it still retains the rear wheel drive setup that is the hallmark of a real sports car. Too bad Nissan does not make them anymore (or any manufacturer for that matter that is within a student's budget). The closest we'll get is the upcoming Z, but that is not affordable or lightweight either. I think I'll stick with my 240 for many years to come. The other car I may consider is the old AE86 Corolla which was my previous car that I had stupidly given away. However the Corolla has less power, but better cargo capability. The 2nd gen RX7s I've owned temporarily also is similar, but they are really unreliable.
