1991 Nissan 240SX LE Fastback 2.4L

Summary:

Great handling, great looks, great price

Faults:

Had to replace the clutch at 140000k.

Slave cylinder went soon after.

I had to replace all the suspension IE Shocks/struts.

All bushings need to be replaced. Creaks and pops when I turn.

It is rusting very badly at the spoiler. Leaks water in the trunk from the rusting spoiler.

Replaced rotors and pads at 200000k.

Windshield washer motor went.

Alternator went.

Replaced battery.

A pivot-bolt in the clutch assembly broke, very expensive to fix, due to removal of transmission.

Master cylinder for clutch went.

Slave cylinder went again also.

Frame rail's are severely rusting.

Power steering is leaking fluid.

Gas tank has a leak.

Head lights blow a fuse every time there are popped-up for some unknown reason.

4th and reverse pop out of gear while driving.

Timing chain is rattling badly.

General Comments:

This was my first and only car.

It was in good shape when I bought it. It has been a steady decline ever since. A lot of things have gone wrong with it since I have bought it. Not really very reliable. Although no real major problems. Just small things.

Handles very well. I bought new suspension and it handles like a dream.

This car has decent power, but could use a little more. The power band is very "American" with the power being made at about 5.5k rpm then dying off after that.

Interior is one of the best I have ever seen. Leather is nice looking and feels good too. Seats are semi comfortable. Backseats do the job for quick drives. Trunk is pretty big.

It is rear wheel drive which is great and very fun.

Very nice looking car in my opinion.

Overall I think this has been a great car, considering the abuse I have put it through. I drive very hard and race sometimes. It has held up pretty good. It is starting to show some signs of wear, but it does have 214k on it. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a sporty yet classy car.

Also, this car is a great car to modify. Lots of options.

The reason that your car's hatch is rusting is because the spoiler holds the water there. I am looking at finding a new spoiler so I don't have the same problem. It is one of the common problems of the 240 but they still run strong.

Any recommendations of where to buy new trunk lid cheap?

^^ You could check out your local salvage yards and see if they have any 240s with good trunk lids.

1991 Nissan 240SX SE 2.4 litre inline four

Summary:

Very sporty and well worth every penny!

Faults:

When this car was purchased, it needed to have the power steering seals replaced, the radiator replaced, and the spark plugs replaced. These items were bad when I purchased the car.

General Comments:

This car is very responsive. It's handling in corners is second to none with little body roll.

The 240sx I owned came with the optional HICAS (I'm not sure the exact technical name), which is a device that, when driving at moderate to high speeds, turns all four wheels instead of just the front two, which basically is four wheel steering.

The five-speed manual transmission is very aggressive and benefits form the viscous limited-slip rear differential.

This car is relatively cheap and really seems like it would cost many times what it does.

1991 Nissan 240SX SE 2.4

Summary:

Style and a little power for short money

Faults:

Bought it today, the passengers hood hinge is broken, needs replacement, the hood does not open very high I guess, and somebody found out the hard way. The brake rotors are warped, and the steering wheel shudders when braking as a result. The windshield is slightly pitted, and the wipers need replacement. Other than that the car is immaculate.

General Comments:

I'ts a good looking car for $1800 bucks, and it beats the Sentra for comfort for 2. It gets up and goes when you need it to, but I can't call it a powerful car. I don't care for automatic transmissions, but it makes remote start a more attractive option.

The original owner was an older (70s!!!) lady who kept it garaged and drove only a few months out of the year. The miles are low for the year, and the grand-daughter who sold it to me had all the parts replaced that generally dry rot after a car sits for years. (Hoses, Belts, Tires, etc.) She had a baby recently and thought this was a bad choice for baby transport. I lucked out.
