Summary:

Do not buy Nissan

Faults:

Fuel system had to be replaced at 40k miles.

Both catalytic converters failed at 55k miles.

Catastrophic engine failure at 69k miles.

General Comments:

No help from Nissan, won't acknowledge the engine issue as being related to poor manufacturing. Research shows a defective timing chain, which was known by Nissan. They issued several service bulletins, but never informed the consumer. The failure occurs out of warranty and the consumer is left with the bill. Horrible company.

Too bad. A powerful truck with a lot of good qualities, but I won't touch a Nissan ever again after the way they've lied and deceived the consumer.

Summary:

Good truck, not perfect

Faults:

Rear axle carrier bearings destroyed themselves at 25,000 miles.

Weak clutch for a truck of this size; I was on clutch number 3 when I sold the truck at 83,000 miles. I managed to get 140,000 miles out of the clutch on my previous truck.

Interior uses poor quality plastics and cloth. Fit and finish are lousy compared with other "import" trucks.

The driver's side seat bolsters started fraying after three years.

General Comments:

Amazing towing capacity, great payload capacity on King Cab models.

Good road manners for a truck, and fairly capable off road as well.

The 4.0 liter is a fantastic engine and is well suited to the truck; plenty of power, tons of torque, and decent economy.

The interior is roomy, and the seats are fairly comfortable. In the King Cab the rear seats are useless, but that is to be expected.

Truck runs fine, but won't pass emissions because of all the failures with sensors. Unable to drive because of the high costs to repair.

Summary:

Use caution with the emission system and service at the Nissan dealerships!

Faults:

I've had a lot of issues with the emission system on this vehicle.

First the fuel level indicator had to be replaced, then I had the service engine light come on for P0430 Catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 2), but then after a week or two, the service engine light suddenly turned off. Then it came back on three weeks later with the same error code, but with an additional error code for the EVAP canister.

So, I brought it to the garage and they replaced the canister and checked the P0430 with a 3-way test on the catalytic converters. It turned out the converters were fine and they erased the codes. I paid for the service and drove my vehicle back home, but three days later the P0430 error code came back on.

I took it to a different Nissan garage and they said I need two new converters. Oh yeah, they also gave me a bill of 800 dollars before they even touched the problem I brought in there for.

So anyways, I've only had two trucks before this, but I have never had this many issues with a truck. I am still trying to figure out the P0430 code, and it's been two months.

I just did a vacuum and pressure tests on the catalytic converters, and the results showed that they were fine.

I think the ECM could be faulty for flagging the components which are not broken.

I have the same problem with my truck, I get error codes for O2 sensor, but my gas mileage is awesome, which means the O2 sensor is working, it comes on and goes off and comes on. I don't know what's the problem, but apart from the annoying engine light going on and off, the truck works perfect, lots of power and I even get 21 on highway (cruise control driving 65 MPH). Even in worst city driving it gives me 17.

This seems to be the same error I have been having on my 1997 Maxima for years. It has a 5 speed, and if you lug the engine, it pops a downstream O2 sensor code. It turns out there is a TSB for this, where the tube that holds the O2 sensor after the cat is changed out to a 98 style. The new tube moves the sensor from a side mount to a top mount. This appears to get the sensor out of the water stream that occurs when you lug the engine in too high a gear. The cat produces excess water when the engine is lugged, and this temporarily contaminates the sensor. After normal operation, the sensor is "cleaned" and starts working properly. This may be a problem on your truck.
