1999 Nissan Maxima 3.0

Summary:

A comfortably quick, reasonably priced 'family' sedan

Faults:

Transmission shifting into 2nd gear 'lazily'. This was felt at 65000km, and was repaired under warranty with a program update.

Noisy rear window seal noticed shortly after I had purchased the vehicle. I fixed this with low density foam between the OEM seal and the window frame of the door. I believe the info and details were found on www.maxima.org at the time I was seeking a solution.

Noisy strut at 90000km. Strut mount required replacement. This problem has been acknowledged by Nissan by way of a TSB (technical service bulletin issued to dealers and their service departments).

General Comments:

Comfortable seats. Handling is good, with a mild amount of sway from the rear noticed mostly when executing high speed banked turns (off-ramps).

The car feels a bit heavy, right until you smash your foot on the gas.

The traction control is a nightmare in almost any situation.

The ABS works well, with acceptable noise levels.

1999 Nissan Maxima GLE 6 cylinder

Summary:

Luxury at half the cost

Faults:

There has been a ticking noise when ever the Heater/Air Conditioner fan is on. The dealer claims that they have never heard this noise.

The brakes always squeak. Even after they get fixed it still continues shortly after. The dealer claims it is a "Maxima Problem".

The back seat area is to small.

The gas mileage is not the best I've experienced. People with SUV's pay less to fill up their gas tanks.

The air conditioning is a little confusing to operate. What ever happened to a button that says air conditioner?

General Comments:

I am very pleased with the exterior look of the car. It looks well put together and powerful based on the front end. I feel the back end is lacking a little on looks though.

The interior is nice and classy looking. Good job on the features.

When it is well tuned up it runs excellent. It is very powerful and fast. It glides nicely on the highway at high speeds.

It has a classy and sophisticated look at a lesser price than the other luxury cars with the speed and performance of a sports car.

I use to have the same problem with squeaky brakes on my 99 Maxima... Then I was told by a friend the people who did my breaks did not place the right clips back on them which will cause a squeaky sound from the brakes, even if they are new!

I am now going through the coil issue... We had the problem at 50K and the Nissan Dealership told us its the spark plugs, the fuel injectors need to be cleaned, so on and so forth, now 86K its the coils...

1999 Nissan Maxima

Summary:

A big disappointment!

Faults:

The main problem was and still is the coils. After finding out what the codes meant, I starting checking the coils according to the procedures in the repair manual. All six checked fine, but the manual only tells you to check between two of the terminals. After comparing the ohm readings of all three terminals, I discovered an open in one of the coils. After installing a new $80 replacement from the dealer the car ran fine. About 3 months later I have the same problem only to find out that all the coils may be defective, and that means another $400 out of pocket, with me doing the labor. I think a recall should have been issued, or at least free replacement coils for any defective ones!

General Comments:

I have three nissans in my driveway, but will look at Toyota for my next purchase.

I have bought three Nissan cars. Two of them have the check engine light problem. Now, I have only 2000 Nissan Max. My husband wants to sell it too since the check engine light bothers him. I went to Nissan dealer and get the problem fixed. But it costs me $835 to replace 6 coils. If replace coils could be done for free, please inform me how could I get money back?

I think Nissan cars have too many small problems. Although I liked Nissan cars before, I would like to try other brand cars.
