1999 Nissan Maxima GLE

Summary:

Wish Nissan would recall their massive coil problem

Faults:

Coil problem, I think.

I couldn't help but notice all the coil problems that the Nissan Maxima seems to have. I am wondering if this is what's wrong with my car?

So far I have been in the dealership the last week, and spent $400.00 on parts and labor to see if it fixes my problem. They told me they would not fix my car if it was the coils. Too expensive they told me.

I did want to note that on the website http://www.petitiononline.com/NIS_IGN/petition.html people are trying to have Nissan make a recall for this problem. I hope all of you who have or had this problem can make this recall happen. If this is such a huge problem, Nissan should take responsibility for their workmanship error.

General Comments:

My car has been great up to this point. I am unfortunately sad with the service at my local Nissan dealership. Too many things to list.

I love my car, I don't want to give it up. But I do require a reliable car. This is my one and only automobile.

The petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/NIS_IGN/petition.html refers to Nissan Maximas 2000 thru 2003.

1999 Nissan Maxima 3.0

Summary:

Excellent Car - Try it!

Faults:

My spark coils were burnt as soon as I purchased.

Looks like they are burnt again at 150,000km.

Very Expensive to change.

I hope Nissan will call back.

General Comments:

Excellent Car, good performance, Comfy, Nice handling, good steering.

Only thing is the coil as a lot of owners have experienced. Nissan better save their face on this as it is a sensitive issue: A lot of people reffer to this as engine problem!!!

1999 Nissan Maxima SE-Limited 3.0 DOHC V6

Summary:

It's Hella Bitchin'

Faults:

I absolutely LOVE this sports sedan, it's fast, refined, comfortable, and extremely reliable.

-10,000 miles after owning vehicle, 1st and 2nd gear were grinding upon acceleration-- clutch went out, had to rebuild tranny. Thankfully I have a family member that works in an autoshop and was able to get me 50% off labor and parts... total rebuild, roughly $850.00 --- Result, whole different car, smooth shifting, and can peal out in 2nd, 3rd if you got the RPM peak power curve down.. :-)

- CV joints have torn at 115,000 - not yet replaced.

- Just recently noticed that the coilpack (s) have been causing engine misfires when in a lower gear at low RPMs, most prominent when trying to accelerate, or "floor it." This problem was resolved cost me 100$ and ran good as new!

- A/C clutch made loud squeeling noises when A/C was turned on, due to bearings in the pulley. After rebuild/replacement, I then realised that it was causing the loud engine noises at the 750RPM idle mark.

I had this vehicle for 210,000 miles. Amazing car and I would recommend it to anyone.

General Comments:

If you're looking for a car that offers performance, reliably, and looks great, then the Maxima is definitely a bargain...

--You get---

190 HP, 205 lb-ft/torque, 5 speed manual, sunroof, black leather, pearl white exterior, 18" 6-spoke wheels, 1" lower, tint, and strut bar... HOT combo

---Also---

Automatic temp controls/audio controls are all very easy to use and positioned perfectly.

- As long as you know what you're doing, RE: coilpack issues / misfiring, as long as you know the procedure to find the issue, problematic coil(s), you're fine. This is an excellent, reliable, and silky smooth VQ-series engine.

ENJOY. (Maxima.org) You can find out a lot. :-)

1999 Nissan Maxima ES 3.0

Summary:

I've had the car for two years and I plan on keeping it for another ten

Faults:

A service light has come on a couple of times. It is suggesting that a computer chip or sensor needs replacing. It seems to come on when a bad batch of gas has been run through the car. An experienced mechanic has confirmed this.

General Comments:

Awesome drive. Powerful drive. Effortless acceleration. Extremely quiet. Whether you are going 80, or 140, its sounds the same. It's so smooth, you have to watch your speed or the police will do it for you. Comfort is excellent. three adults in the rear seat is no problem.
