1990 Nissan Sentra XE Sedan 1.7 liter 4 cylinder

Summary:

If you drive it right, it will last forever

Faults:

- Had to replace the entire brake system

- Master cylinder

- Muffler

- Catalytic converter

- Starter motor

- Car also has a small oil leak and a vibration problem that "only" occurs if the car is idle in drive

- The headlight globes were falling out

- The front blinker covers were damaged and cracked by gravel

- The front bumper is hanging 1/4 inch down, looks like a fender bender

General Comments:

I currently own a 1990 Sentra automatic. Bought it in November 2001 for $1500. Car has 124k on it and was driven like crap (Nascar stop'n go 500) by the last owner. Lemon-mobile.

Don't buy the automatic version of this car. It has no pickup power. Very dangerous if you're trying to turn on a busy street.

I put no miles on this car as I work only 1.5 miles away.

It's fast for a old car. Can reach 105-110 MPH.

Other than that, it's a great car. Ugly, but a great piece of machine. If it "wasn't" a Nissan it would be in the junk yard right now.

1990 Nissan Sentra Base 1.6

Summary:

It kept going and going!!

Faults:

The alternator, radiator, exhaust, were all new.

The rust was getting very bad.

Two newer tires from the wreckers.

We got the air conditioning up and running when car was purchased.

Nissa (that was her name) finally went off to a better place. With over 300,000km she certainly did well.

The cause of death was that the timing chain went, and I didn't know till it dug in to the bottom of the oil pan. This then created a large oil leak.

General Comments:

If well maintained you can easily drive these cars to about 400,000km.

I found the car would lug going uphill.

Never once left me stranded, even when the timing chain went and with the oil leak, I still drove her to the dump.

These cars aren't quitters, there like Energizer bunnies.

Great car for trips, had lots of space, comfortable seats.

Best car I've ever driven with such good fuel economy.

I even learned to drive standard on her.

1990 Nissan Sentra 2DR XE 1.6L

Summary:

Best bargain ever!

Faults:

Replaced Clutch and Alternator at 137,000 ($800) during a road trip.

General Comments:

I bought this car to tool around town mainly, but ended up using it as a highway driver because it was very reliable. It only broke down once when the clutch and alternator both decided to go out on me at the same time. Still no problem getting it fixed for a decent price - what do you expect when you are in the middle of nowhere!

The car was quick. Only 90HP, but it moved. No problem getting it up to 100MPH at all. Relatively comfortable inside and decent suspension, tires and brakes. I put a lot of work into it and made it really nice for long road trips. It did 1000 mile trips a few times and had no problems at all. I got 32mpg in town and 38mpg on the highway till the day I sold it.

1990 Nissan Sentra

Summary:

Very reliable for college student with low funds

Faults:

The brake pads had to be replaced.

I had to get two new front tires (one slashed, the other worn out)

General Comments:

The brake pads and 1 tire are not really problems because I was aware of the future replacements when I bought it.

I can't go faster than 80km up a hill.

The car kind of shakes at 110km!

This car is kind of ugly in a granny-sense, but it has worked like a charm for my needs.

1990 Nissan Sentra LX 4 cylinder

Summary:

A good reliable bargain

General Comments:

This car is very dependable and handles good. However the exterior needs a paint job. It has some rust spots. The car's exterior is made of what the cars used to be made of. I don't believe you can buy a car of what this car is made of.
