2004 Nissan Sentra S 1.8

Summary:

Satisfied overall. Good basic transportation

Faults:

At random times the car doesn't crank immediately. It will take 5-10 seconds sometimes to start, or shortly after starting will die and have to re-crank. This is a strange problem, and I hope that it will not progress.

I took the car in for a complimentary dealer check-up. Was told it needed new drive belts because the current ones are worn. There was no visual damage to the belts at all upon later inspection of my own. Replacing the belts in my opinion is fairly expensive, $155. They did recommend that the transmission fluid be replaced, which it probably needs.

I'm having trust issues with the dealer, for when I really do need them, and wonder if they will take me for unnecessary repairs.

General Comments:

The car is decent for basic transportation and no more. Seats are fairly comfortable, though can wear on one after a long trip. Road noise is pronounced at speeds greater than 50mph.

Gas mileage is impressive, even with the ever-rising cost of fuel. It lacks though in pick-up speed, mainly due to the small engine and 126hp output.

Air conditioner is cool and breezy, and the car has extremely low emissions, thus making it environment-friendly.

The backseat is not very roomy, so any adult occupants should be prepared for an uncomfortable ride.

The dashboard is conveniently laid-out and easy to operate. I'm still unclear as to how the power mirrors operate, even after reading owner's manual. They may not work anymore. The car is nimble and easy to park.

Before, I had a 1987 Nissan Maxima SE, fully loaded. It seems that though it was almost 20 years older than the Sentra, it had many more luxury and convenience features.

2004 Nissan Sentra S 1.8L

Summary:

You get more than you pay for

Faults:

With plenty of wear and tear on this small 1.8L engine, there is no doubt that you are bound to run into some problems.

The engine often has a hard time starting up, no matter if it is hot or cold.

The speakers are cheap and I blew them out easily, although by accident.

General Comments:

Pretty fuel efficient and handles like you would expect a small sized sedan to handle.

The car comes with a small sub, which packs enough bump for most people.

The car is light weight and handles pretty well.

I've a friend with an '03 Sentra with the exact same problem: it's hard to start.

Sounds like the fuel pump to me.

2004 Nissan Sentra S 1.8

Summary:

Great car for the 9000 I paid for it. I would recomend it to anyone who drives a lot

Faults:

When I bought the car, there were a few issues, so I brought it back a week later.

Front hub bearings were making a noise, so I thought. The dealer said no, it was tires, so they replaced all 4 tires for me. 0$

Right front speaker blown. Dealer fixed. 0$.

Belts squeaking under the hood when it was cold. Dealer fixed, 0$.

Front rotors warped, dealer fixed. 0$.

I bought the car from a Nissan dealer, and I knew the owner, so I got a full warranty on it till 100,000 miles plus certification. I guess I was lucky.

Now there is a little squeak when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd. I don't know what it could be; I'll bring it in when I get a chance.

General Comments:

I love this car a lot, it's so much better than my Oldsmobile Alero I had; that car was nothing but a problem.

Great gas mileage, 36 all highway with my 110 mile a day commute to work.

Not a fancy car by any means, but it does the job. Not as fast as I'd like, but it gets up there. At least this car isn't governed to 105 like my Alero LOL.

Pretty comfortable, and easy to get in and out. Not good for backseat riders, it has a relatively small backseat with no leg room.

For being 18 years old, I think the car's nice and more reliable than my other cars. It's similar to my 1990 Honda Accord.
