2005 Nissan Sentra S 1.6

Summary:

Good reliable car for the price

Faults:

The interior lighting doesn't work. Took the car to the dealer and they weren't sure why the climate controls, dome light or climate control lights quit working.

The car also doesn't start the first time either.

The leather seats are cracking and coming undone in the front seats.

General Comments:

It's a good reliable car.

It doesn't do that great in the snow or ice.

It also has a very small back seat. I have two car seats in the back, and they take up the whole back of the car. Also not good for rear facing car seats. Either the driver or the passenger will be uncomfortable.

Tires are very expensive to replace on the Special Edition model.

2005 Nissan Sentra S 1.8

Summary:

Great car for the money

Faults:

Lights in shifter and climate control burned out; dealership replaced under warranty.

Front calipers, rotors and pads needed to be replaced.

Fuel pump repair kit installed, (service bulletin at dealership.)

Transmission shifts hard from 1st to 2nd gear when cold.

Rear shocks need to be replaced, very soft...

General Comments:

Nice car for the money. Runs very well and handles the road well. Very peppy around town.

The engine is a bit noisy under hard acceleration, no power on the highway when passing, the car really struggles to pick up speed. Moves around at high speeds on the highway.

Interior is very nice, seats are nice and comfortable. The sound system is good only having 4 speakers. I love the aux input in the factory installed radio.

Very cheap to run, great on gas and only requires 3 quarts of oil each change.

Much better car than my previous, 2003 Saab 9-3... the worst car I have ever owned. The Nissan Sentra beats the Saab by a long shot.

2005 Nissan Sentra S 1.8

Summary:

Average to poor quality - poor follow-up

Faults:

Recall on gas tank, hose had to be replaced on recall.

Transmission has started slipping. Dealer assures me they all do that. I don't take much comfort in that statement. I now shift it as if it were a semi automatic. I start with shift selector in second, and when it hits around thirty mph, I shift it into drive and momentarily let off gas pedal, and it shifts pretty good. I know I shouldn't have to do this, but I know the dealer won't fix it. Think I'm going back to Ford. Never had a drive train issue with Ford. Perhaps I'll try another dealer.

General Comments:

I like everything about this car except the slow shifting tranny, and the harsh ride quality. I look down the road ahead of me for any kind of bump or pothole, and swerve to avoid them. Getting too old for this harsh of a ride. It felt pretty good when I first got it (ride quality), but our town has a bunch of potholes this year.

The dealer is no help at all.

Glad I bought the extended warranty, I can use it for toilet paper, if I run out.

Should mention that Nissan corporate calls all the time to ask me what I think of the dealer. When I tell them I can hear them yawn. So much for Japanese cars.

This car is made in Mexico. Transmission problems were common for the 2005 models. I had a 2004 and it gave me absolutely no problems, ride quality and power and acceleration could've been better but overall was a good car. My friend has the 2007 (first year for the new bodystyle) and it is leaps and bounds better in quality than the 2000-2006 models.

Hello.

I'm the original reviewer on this 05 Sentra. Just wanted to add at 25,000 miles the head gasket has sprung a leak. What next. I'm going back to Ford next week, and trade this lemon in.
