2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3.4

Faults:

I have had to replace the front rotors several times.

My front dash is torn and has completely bubbled up.

CD Player not working properly, cd's sometimes come out of player completely wet.

Recently my car has been completely losing power and will shut off, while driving 60 to 70 mph on the freeway. After about an hour it will start back up. I have attempted to get it fix, but I am not having any luck. The starter is fine, and the battery has been checked.

My coolant light never goes off.

The trunk sometimes pops open when I start up the car.

I had a similar situation where my car died unexpectedly on the freeway and restarted with no problem a half hour later. After two or three trips to the dealership, and one instance of them coming to tow the car in, only to have it start when they arrived, they finally checked with GM re the general repair history of Aleros and found that they have been known to have problems with the fuel injection system. They fixed it (was still under warranty), and it's been fine ever since. (Except of course for the brake issue that seems to be very common... the first time I had them replaced, they dealership put ones on with a lifetime warranty, so I haven't had to pay for the other 5 or 6 brake repairs I've had done since!)

My car dies suddenly going down the interstate, usually with the air conditioning on and usually going up a hill (not necessarily a large one, just a plain hill). We have replaced the fuel filter, one fuel injector, and put some little black things between the spark plugs. Sorry, I'm a woman. Anyways, it is still dying while driving down the interstate. You stated that you got yours repaired when that was happening to your car. What exactly did they do? By the way, the service engine light was on constantly so my husband took it to store, it said 3rd cylinder was miss firing. We looked at the spark plugs that he recently replaced, and all were used and smelled of carbon except for one. We "assumed" that was which cylinder wasn't firing and proceeded to replace that fuel injector. And make no mistake! Those things don't come cheap. Even with my husband's shop charging it, it was still a little over $83.00 You stated that GM has had problems with the fuel injection system of Olds Aleros. please let me know what your mechanic did to fix the problem. Email me at mary_waldrup@yahoo.com Thanks!!!

Summary:

A high performance car and I love it

Faults:

The only problem I'm having with my car is that the brakes are very squeaky. Have taken it in to garage and they have checked it out and told me that the noise would soon go. That was 3 months ago and they are still squeaking.

General Comments:

This car is great and it handles well.

We had the same problem and it turned out to be warped rotors. Soon after the master cylinder died. Good luck.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS

Summary:

A sad decline of American-made business ideas

Faults:

The drivers side window came off of the track at 35,000 miles. It was replaced under warranty. The same drivers window track went bad at 53,000 miles... it was not under warranty... $600 to replace that is with labor. Just had that fixed and 2 weeks later the drivers side backseat window did the same thing. Mind you, no kids in the family and that window has probably been up and down only on sporadic occasions, I say less than 50 times, if that.

General Comments:

I am very disappointed that this is not a recall item on this model of the door mechanism. I have seen recalls for less... like the the little old down clip for the middle of the seats compartment that was not really an issue anyway. Yes, a hindrance to the function... but yet functions as intended. That could of been overlooked, unlike the use of the windows.
