1990 Plymouth Sundance Liftback Sedan 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great handling, it was like a little racer

Faults:

Most of my problems with the car were my inexperience and neglect.

The main problem was that the button on the shift broke off. It was not a big deal. I just wrapped a bandana around it. I was considering to put on an aluminum shifter anyways.

General Comments:

Great handling, it was like a little racer. I only wish I had a Duster, the next model up with a turbo engine.

This car was a learning tool, because it was my first major car. If I took better care of it, it may have lasted till today.

If you can find one with low mileage, and are considering it, I would recommend it. The Neon is a sad replacement for the Sundance/Shadow/Duster.

1990 Plymouth Sundance 2.5 L

Faults:

I have replaced in the last four years: timing and other belts, some part of the brakes, CV boot, struts, springs, rad, hoses, water pump, tires, a window that would not unroll properly, head gasket, starter, ignition cylinder and an electrical component for heat.

General Comments:

Cost me too much money over the years, likely from poor previous maintenance. A good first car for me.

A '90 Sundance was my first car, also, when I purchased it from a used car dealership in 1998. I, too, spent large sums of money over the course of five years in repairs and normal care. I found myself repairing the radiator, the starter and ignition switch, and even the steering column. About the only thing I didn't have to fix was the transmission, which I suspect was on its last leg when, finally, it dawned on me that the money I was spending on repairs, I could put toward a new car, so that's what I did. Sadly, I had it towed to a junk parts dealer who gave me $25.00 for it. I don't regret that decision, however there are certainly times when I miss my Sundance. The hatchback was of constant use to me, especially when I was moving, as it was able to allow for transport of oddly shaped items. It was also a breeze in the snow, matching any large SUV, because of it's solid weight and design. Finally, and most amusingly, I never had trouble finding it in a large parking lot because of its bright blue color. All in all, the good out-weighed the bad, and I smile when I look at the chrome "SUNDANCE" emblem that I asked the junk dealer to remove for me to keep.
