1999 Pontiac Montana

Summary:

Don't even consider buying this van!

Faults:

Windshield leaks.

Coolant leaks out.

Air Bag Light will not go off.

Cam Shaft is broken.

Front end makes loud popping sound.

Brakes need constant repair.

General Comments:

We have had nothing, but trouble from this van.

The brakes constantly need replacing.

It does not have a good resale value.

I cannot trade the vehicle in because it is not worth near what is owed on it.

The cam shaft is broke into and the mechanic advised that it is due to a manufacture defect. We contacted the Pontiac Corp. and they said that the owner of the vehicle needs to "step up" and pay for repairs. They do not seem to care that they have created and sold a very poor automobile. I will never purchase another GM product. I will go with a Nissan or Honda. The van is currently in the shop and will cost around $2,000 (or more) to repair.

I have had many problems with my 1999 Pontiac Montana. The air bag light will not go off. The brakes have had to be replaced once already and they need it again.

My 1998 Pontiac Montana had the same broken camshaft problem. Unfortunately, right after I spent the money to repair the coolant leaking into the crankcase problem. I'm very disappointed. My previous 2 minivans were Chrysler products and held up great. I still like the looks and handling of the Pontiac, but, reliability comes first. This is my first and last GM minivan.

I have a 2003 Montana, with problems after problems.

First 12,000 miles my brakes had to be replace.

At 30,000 miles head gasket bad. Then only 3,000 miles on new head gasket intake gasket let go!!!

Had to replace brakes again at 39,000 miles.

NOTE: (My driving is about 90% highway use)

Now my sliding side door will not close and stay latch.

Dealer can't find anything wrong.

My wife was driving it home one night and lost all power.

Had it tow back to dealer, that night.

Next day get phone call from dealer, explaining all was working OK!!!

Dealer can't find any problem at this time...

TIME WILL TELL!!!

Thank you for your time Steve.

I just purchased a Pontiac Montana in June of 2004. It has already been in the shop 11 days and tonight on a dark, rainy road, all attempts to accelerate were met with UH UH not tonight Shirley! A normal 22 minute ride home took almost an hour. When I accelerated, the battery light flicked on, and it sounded like someone was ripping a zipper. I have just about had it with this car. When it went into the shop, a couple of cylinders were "missing" and the airbag light would NOT go off, and there was a general ticking noise from under the hood. The dealer dropped another engine in it... the day after I got it back, driving along again, and everything goes dead. This time it was "an alternator bushing that wasn't tightly attached". Tonight? Lord knows what is wrong, but I didn't have this much trouble with my Grand Caravan with 160,000 miles on it! This one has 83,000 and it's been nothing, but trouble.

1999 Pontiac Montana Extended

Summary:

Think Twice before buying

Faults:

At 42,000 the engine began to overheat excessively. Took it into shop turns out there was a bad seal in the engine block causing the radiator to leak into the engine. $1700 repair. At 72,000 miles the car returns to the shop for a transmission rebuild. Not sure price on that one yet.

General Comments:

Friend of mine has 1998 Trans Sport. Same problems as above at different times. Will never own a Pontiac again.
