2003 Saturn ION Quad Coupe 2.2 ecotech

Summary:

Not worth a nickle

Faults:

Continuous cold start problems. Dealership trying to rip me off saying the OCM needed to be replaced. It is the ignition switch.

Brakes have been replaced three times since ownership, and again they are having issues because of rust!

Front end needs work; clunks going over speed bumps, pot holes etc.

Generally unhappy with what I had been lead to believe was a good reliable well made NORTH AMERICAN CAR.

General Comments:

Piece of crap.

2003 Saturn ION 3

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

The only problem I ever had with this car was the sunroof leaked, otherwise it has been the most reliable car I ever owned.

General Comments:

I have done very little extra maintenance on this car.

The clutch has 197000 miles on it.

I have owned 3 sets of tires.

The rear brakes got me 147000 miles.

I will be replacing the front brakes. This will be the second time.

2003 Saturn ION 2

Faults:

Hey all, I own a 2003 Saturn Ion 2 that had a no start, no crank problem. I searched for the cause for two days until giving up and calling a tow truck. They took it in and found a loose starter wire as the culprit. So if your Saturn has these symptoms check to see if the starter wires are tight.

2003 Saturn ION 2 4 cylinder

Summary:

Love it

Faults:

I have had no problems with this vehicle other than normal wear and tear.

General Comments:

I love the look and everything about this car. The paint is still perfect on this car. Not a drop of rust or any kind of blemish. I haven't had the starting problems I've read about on this site.

2003 Saturn ION 2 2.2

Summary:

It is a good car

Faults:

Rear blinkers had to be replaced twice in two months when I first bought the car.

Driver seat has a hole worn in it where the seatbelt comes around.

I am replacing the bearing hubs on both sides today, with only 62,000 miles.

General Comments:

For the most part, I have not had to have any other repairs, like other blogs have had. I have been very happy with my Ion.

2003 Saturn ION 2.2L

Summary:

Reliable family and commuter car

Faults:

I haven't had anything go wrong with this car. I had to replace the tires when I got them, they were almost completely bald, but I put some winter tires on (I live in northern Canada) and that has been fine.

Clip to hold the seatbelt buckle to the seatbelt strap broke, so I have to reach down between the door and the seat to grab my seatbelt buckle.

General Comments:

I have owned this car for over a year now, and commute a couple hours each day, and have had NO problems with it. I couldn't be happier with the reliability. I consistently change the oil, air and fuel filters, and outside of that, nothing has come up.

The car keeps running, and has decent enough pick-up, although nothing to write home about.

Decent gas mileage, could be better, but that is true for pretty much every car.

Interior fairly boring, but dials and other information are easy to access and see.

Decent trunk space.

2003 Saturn ION 3

Summary:

Cute, but never again

Faults:

1. Had to take car back in the first month for the right rear door weather stripping popping out. They fixed it and it popped out again after warranty, and said it would cost about $450 to fix.

2. They replaced recall blinker, and on my way home the blinker stopped working, turned around and they had to fix something else.

3. Leather steering wheel leather cracked and was replaced three times (I then put a cover on it).

4. Starting in cold weather doesn't happen sometimes. They took it back in for a recall on ignition lubrication, and when it didn't start a few years later they said they haven't had any problems with the ones they fixed, and it would cost money to fix. I used WD-40 in the ignition and it works fine.

5. A personal comfort thing for me is that I don't like the center console going all the way to the floor, because my leg hits it. I have had a Jeep and a truck, and could tilt my leg to the right freely.

6. Replacing a lot of bulbs.

7. Probably not going to buy another one.

General Comments:

A friend bought the same car before I did, and I liked it, so when I was in the market for one, I bought the same car. See above for all the problems I've had with mine. He also had the steering wheel issue of cracking.
