Best car I ever owned

Faults:

The car needed a tune up at 76k miles.

General Comments:

This is absolutely the most trouble free car I have ever owned.

The car has 105000 miles and is all original. By that I mean the tires, brakes, windshield wipers, transmission fluid etc. are all original.

I had to replace the spark plugs at 76000 miles, and I've done oil changes. I've never done anything else to this car and it runs perfectly. I've never rotated the tires, and I've never had to have the car realigned.

My wife has a 1993 SC2. Her car needed tires at 85000 miles, brakes at 100000, a clutch/throwout bearing at 120000, and we just got the radiator flushed/filled at 130000.

My wife's car averages 36 mpg and my car averages 41 mpg.

I never owned an easier car than a Saturn.

2000 Saturn SL V6

Summary:

I love my Saturn!

Faults:

Rats chewed the wires on a sensor in my Saturn. I haven't had any other repairs.

General Comments:

My Saturn gets phenomenal gas mileage. On my last trip from Baltimore to Kalamazoo, it averaged over 40 mpg. Driving around the city, I get 32-36 mpg.

The Saturn is very comfortable on a long road trip. I don't mind driving all day because it's actually a pleasure.

The Saturn is much roomier than my Escort, but it's actually cheaper to run, especially with the phenomenal gas mileage.

I bought my 2000 Saturn SL1 in October 2005. So far, not a day of trouble. I travel a lot and I commute to college and I find that the ride is very comfortable, the car drives very smooth and the acceleration is great for a 4 cylinder. The only thing I ever had go wrong was that the factory CD player stopped working and I recently replaced the radio. I recently got new front brakes and a new serpentine belt, which it would have needed eventually. But other than the CD player going out, it has been a good car. On the other hand, I had a brand new Hyundai Tiburon, and I had nothing but trouble with the power windows and the airbags. I had it in service 5 times in the whole year that I owned it. It's sad when a used car that's now almost 7 years old runs better than a brand new one.

2000 Saturn SL

Summary:

My Saturn SL is a good, dependable car that I will drive for years to come.

Faults:

Fuse panel cover will not stay on. The panel is located between the driver and passenger seats at the floor board. My husband often kicks the panel cover on the passenger side, it falls off and will not stay in place.

It is not a comfortable car for long distance driving, due to poor seat adjustments. I can never get it adjusted properly for me.

General Comments:

The car is very economical.

I love the sound system and the sporty look of the car.

2000 Saturn SL 2 1.9 Gasoline

Summary:

This is the worst car I've ever owned, and I used to own a tempo!

Faults:

The transmission has broken Twice! Each time it was the differential pin therefore not covered under warranty. Each time the transmission had to be replaced. ($2000 each time)

Clutch gave out after 2 months of ownership (50,000 miles). ($800)

My mechanic just told me the brakes need to be replaced. ($600)

The interior was literally falling apart due to loose screws and poorly glued parts.

General Comments:

Handles and accelerates like an elephant.

Quite possibly the most offensive mechanics I've ever met.

Comfortable seats, despite half asked interior.

My old Volvo 850 has 95,000 miles on it and it still has the original clutch and transmission, and both show no sign of breaking.

After all the bad things I've written I must give Saturn credit for the engine, I live in Wisconsin and it has started and ran strongly on the coldest of mornings.

It sounds like you're getting ripped off on your repairs. You should shop around, the dealership will always be the most expensive. The clutch in my 2000 Sl is still strong after 85000 miles. The clutch life depends a lot on how you treat it (or abuse it). It should definitely last for more than 50000 miles. I just had front pads and rotors put on my car and it cost me like $150 at Tuffy. I also guarantee your rear brakes are in fine condition after only 50000 miles, the rear brakes last a long time (they do like 30% of the braking). Your Volvo runs like a top because it is made better and cost more brand new than a Saturn. You should seek someone you trust about cars and ask them before doing any repairs. Good luck.
