1995 Suzuki Swift 1.3

Summary:

I just wish the darn wheel bearings weren't such a problem!

Faults:

Replaced Motor in rear window wiper at purchase.

Replaced left Front Axle at 83003 km.

Replaced right rear Wheel Bearing at 83003 km.

Complete Brake replacement at 86751 km.

Replaced left and right rear Wheel Bearings at 93305 km.

New Timing Belt required.

Need another inspection of rear Wheel Bearings and Plugs and Wires need replacement.

General Comments:

According to the previous owner (she bought it brand new), the only problems she encountered were the distributor cap (it was replaced), radio not working, and rear defrost not working.

From my experience, I have concluded that once this model hits 75,000 km it is in need of constant servicing. Hopefully, it may only be the servicing I am receiving and not the car itself. Having to replace the wheel bearings 3 times within a year is outrageous!

Otherwise, it handles great and it wonderful on gas. :)

The problem with the rear wheel bearing is really a simple one.

These bearings are a one time pre-load torque down setting, and are not like the old bearings that use a castellated nut with a split pin.

They require that the internal spacer be present and oriented in the correct position. If the spacer is missing or placed the wrong way between the 2 bearings in the hub, then rapid bearing failure will occur.

The bearings themselves should be of the sealed on both sides type, at the least, or with one seal on one side with the open ends facing towards each other so that the grease in the hub can lubricate them.

Summary:

Excellent cheap reliable transportation

Faults:

Wheel Bearings

Breaks

Radiator.

General Comments:

This is the most reliable car I have owned. Always starts, always gets me to where I want to go. It gets pounded on driving down the rutted up Forest Lanes that abound the area where I live. I smashed it up a few months back and I am still driving it. I went through a T intersection and ran over the sign, a 4 inch diameter pole, and a corner post. The air bags went off and the front of the car was pushed into the engine. I pulled it home and pulled the front end out with my tractor and viola! Car fixed! It used to get 50 mpg, but after the accident mileage fell to 35. Still good, but not nearly as good as before. All in all I am very impressed with this car for 125 bucks.

1995 Suzuki Swift 1.3 Liter

Summary:

Fun to have

Faults:

When I bought this car for $720, I found only a few problems.

The sprayers for the wind shield lost their spray power.

Wiring problems that caused the lights to go out now and then (not likely a manufacturing problem).

General Comments:

I no longer have this car, I passed it on to my brother, but enjoyed having it so much that I wanted to comment. As long as I owned it, I only had to change the oil and replace brakes.

It's very fast up to about 65, and I loved the over-drive.

Had no problems on ice with studs.

Could take it on gravel, grass, or slick parking lots and go nuts.

A very fun and reliable little cheap car.

If you enjoyed the car, why did you give it a frowny face? Were there any other problems?

1995 Suzuki Swift 1.3 Gas

Summary:

A street legal go-cart!

Faults:

Bad Brakes

Rear Wheel Bearings

Exhaust.

General Comments:

I have been very pleased with this car. It gets great gas mileage (38+) and it is fun to drive. I love being able to park just about anywhere I want. So far it has been reliable. The engine has plenty of pep. As far as I can tell it does not burn any oil, but it does leak some. This car also has the traction of a mountain goat. I have been able to take it a few places that you would think a small car would never beable to go. Over all it has been a pretty good car, especially considering I only paid 150 bucks for it.
