1987 Toyota Camry LE 2.0 4-Cylinder

Summary:

Cheap, reliable, and beautiful

Faults:

The tread on the tires have gone bad at about 190,000 miles.

The interior is fading a little bit.

The alternator blew along with most of the wires in the car.

Also, the car will shut off when it has rained for a while or while raining (sometimes).

General Comments:

The car is a beauty.

It is very reliable and doesn't give me problems anymore.

I think it could last another 10 more years with good maintenance and care.

The car is a little weak, but can give good power when needed.

1987 Toyota Camry 2.0

Summary:

Hope Toyota keeps building this kind of quality

Faults:

Other than the expected tune-up, the car has cost me nothing. The transmission has the slip between 2nd and 3rd, and even with a new filter and fluid the outcome was the same. So I live with the occasionally sloppy shift. The starter has just started to do the grinding, maybe once every 3 weeks.

General Comments:

The car has been in Ontario all it's life. The previous owner was kind enough to oil it every year religiously. This has saved the car from being biodegradable. The body is silver and in beautiful shape. I can't believe this car is almost 20 years old. The ride is more plush than my 1992 Camry. Comfortable for long trips and basic with the DX trim. The trunk is huge and great for 2 hockey bags. I am considering selling the car to pick up a corolla, just hope the ride isn't compromised. Fuel mileage is incredible especially using the cruise control.

1987 Toyota Camry LE 4 Cylinder

Summary:

Good first car - if you can get for under $1000 dollars take it

Faults:

Distributor cap cracked at 128k, starter strips sometimes can be fixed by rocking the car though, transmission slowly went around 133k - kind of my fault though, I beat on it pretty bad.

General Comments:

Very small, reliable car, but feels like a go-kart at times, pretty ballsy for a v4 anyway - the 17 year old car got chugging to 110 mph before it topped out.

Hey pal... I see you don't have much car experience seeing how you refer to your car as a V4...there is no such thing.

Why don't you just back off. He made a simple mistake. Don't read into everything so much.

Wow! People are so quick to pounce. Thanks for your insight.

V4 engines do exist, but the Camry has never been fitted with one.

Ford of Europe fitted V4 engines to the Corsair and to the Transit van in the 60's.

These engines were a little lumpy on tickover, but had plenty of power and were generally very good engines, I think, based upon my ownership from new of a Ford Corsair 2000E.

The engine is compact, very short, so is suitable for applications where space is limited.

It has more parts than an in-line four-cylinder engine as you obviously need two cylinder heads and two intake and exhaust manifolds.

Good car if you know how to work on them. Giving this car to a mechanic is to expansive to own.
