2002 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder

Summary:

Good car, but poor support

Faults:

EV-AP leak in gas fill neck.

General Comments:

Dealer claims that corrosion is causing vacuum leak, but it is a longitudinal weld down the neck that is allowing the atmospheric air to leak past the o-ring seal on the gas cap. Neither the company, dealer or the extended warranty will cover. Can you imagine! The emissions control system corrodes in less than two years and the manufacturer will not cover it? I was charged $50 for the trouble I.D. and got a quote for $500 for fill neck replacement.

Toyota is the best in quality, but my experience with some dealers have been??? I have ordered yet another Toyota because of the product, not the dealer! Some dealers have their noses in the air, and others are excellent... Chose your dealers wisely!

2002 Toyota Camry LE 2.4 liter VVT-i 4 cylinder

Summary:

The Camry is a superb, reliable car

Faults:

My car has operated very reliably.

Everything in the car works flawlessly.

General Comments:

The 2.4 liter engine is very smooth and refined for a 4 cylinder. There are V6 engines that aren't as refined as this engine. Very quiet operation too. I love the cariable valve timing feature and drive-by-wire throttle.

The seats are extremely comfortable. They have really good contouring for extended comfort on long trips. These seats lack some lateral support, but that's okay. The Camry is not a sports car and shouldn't be.

This car is very roomy. The placement of the gages and ergonomics is great. The only complaint I have is the audio system is placed a little too far out of the reach of the driver. Steering wheel radio controls would help a lot.

I really enjoy the ride quality that is a hallmark of the Toyota Camry. Whether its tar-strips, potholes, rough roads, the Camry glides over them as if you were riding on air. The handling could be better, and the tires tend to lose their grip a little too easily.

I take my Camry to my local Toyota dealer for maintenance according to the Passport plan. The cost of maintenance at the dealer is a bit high, but the service there and atmosphere is second to none.

Overall, if you want a comfortable, reliable mid-size car, then you can't go any better than Camry.

I have 121k miles on my 02 Camry LE. Bought it new with the 100k 7 year warranty. I did have the trans begin to slip between 1st and 2nd at 97k and they replaced the trans NO problems, no questions. Other than regular oil changes, plug change and anti-freeze at 60k, there has been no problems.

I do need new struts front and rear, noticed my tire noise increasing and rear tires are getting choppy.

I get 34-35 mpg highway and 28-30 city. The ride is very comfortable and the interior has held up very well.

I say this taking in consideration I spent $1200 for the extended warranty and glad I did, I love this car and will buy a plug-in hybrid Camry when they come out.

I am not a dealer and do not work for Toyota.

2002 Toyota Camry XLE 2AZ-FE

Summary:

A good ride so far

Faults:

Check engine light came on at 58,000. Disconnected the battery and it went out. It came back on at 60,000.

General Comments:

I've had no problems with rattles, squeeks, or pulling to the left. The Michelin tires that came on it were getting worn so installed a set of Proxes TPT directional tires. I change oil at about 5000 miles, and about a day before going in for a change I put a half quart of Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase. I also use MT-10 in the engine oil. This maintenance procedure has served me well as my 88 Camry clocked over 420,000 miles.
