1986 Toyota Corolla SR5 Sport 1.6L Carburated

Summary:

This car has a soul of a sports car, without breaking your bank account

Faults:

When I first got the car, a few things needed to be fixed.

A few main things were the radiator, tires, brake pads, and headlights.

Just recently the transmission has started to act up, so I have decided to change the car into a manual.

General Comments:

I love my Corolla SR5 Sport more than most cars.

I honestly love its acceleration and top speed. I have actually reached 110 miles per hour with this car.

The only real situation I really have a hard time trying to do, is making my car look really nice, because there's hardly any accessories for this car.

I've set up my car pretty good so far, but my next major task, besides the transmission, is to put blue neon lights under the car, so I can really shock the Honda and Acura drag racers. When they see that light turn green, and my car's rear wheels burn out, those guys will left in the dust trying to figure out how the hell an 86 beat their car.

1986 Toyota Corolla Base 1.6L

Summary:

A poor student's dream

Faults:

The car needed new tires when I got it.

Needed a new alternator and battery at 245000 Km's.

Burns a liter of oil every 500 Km's.

I raced a motor home and lost, that's how slow my car is.

General Comments:

My car has only one option, a clock. No power steering or anything like that. It burns a lot of oil and is very slow. Other than that it has been great. Never lets me down. If you can't afford a newer car this is the car for you. The engine is very worn out and that lowers my fuel economy and power.

I've got a 1986 Toyota Corolla, I've had it for 8 years right through school and now Uni. It's a great car, reliable as hell, if something goes wrong with it theres a pretty good chance you can fix it yourself. Its done around 285000km and still going strong, does use a little oil though. Can't go wrong with a lo-rolla.

1986 Toyota Corolla Base 1.6L 4 cylinder

Summary:

An indestructible beater car

Faults:

Bumper came off after an encounter with an old Chevy truck.

Oil cap was left off at one time, causing oil to be sprayed under the hood.

General Comments:

This car is indestructible. My dad has owned it since '89 and has been using it in stop and go traffic everyday since. Despite lack of maintenance (I think the oil was just recently changed... for the first time in 13 years!!!), stop and go driving, and three people learning to drive a stick on it, it drives on. I'm now driving it while I fix my other car, and I have to say that for the money, this car is quite a deal. 100,000 is nothing for this car. While my Chevy is started to come apart at 101,000, this little beater will probably life to see my younger brother drive it. Seating and accomodations are spartan, interior is tacky at best (unless you enjoy cheap tweed), gas mileage is great, and reliability is excellent. It's slow as all hell, but that's not so important to some people.

1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S 1.6-Twin Cam 16v

Summary:

A pleasure to own and drive

Faults:

Clutch was needed at time of purchase.

Brakes were also almost useless.

Water pump puked at 465000.

Power steering idler hit the hood at 468000, car handled better w/o.

Synchros for 1st and 2nd were non-existent at time of purchase.

General Comments:

When I bought this car, it had already been beaten by a friend of mine for three years. Having paid $160.00 for it I didn't expect very much from the car, but I was pleasantly surprised when I finally got it going.

Though obviously worn out and mistreated, the car proved to be an absolute blast to drive, whether it be on a curvy blacktop, or an unpredictable logging road.

Aside from sucking all the dust off the back tires on back-roads, I haven't a single complaint. I can't even force myself to sell this car, even though I have a high performance Camaro in the garage.

If you find a bargain on a Corolla GT-S, don't hesitate. Even if you have trouble, it is a very easy car to work on.

P.S.-Set some money aside for a set of tires, you'll need them.

1986 Toyota Corolla Base 1.6L

Summary:

A car from heaven

Faults:

Hardly anything has gone wrong.

Needed new brakes, muffler, and battery.

Leaks a small amount of oil.

General Comments:

I bought this car from a dealer in the summer of 1989. I wanted a newer car then, and this car was only 3 years old. It had only 30,000 miles on it. The dealer told me that Toyotas were a good car. I was used to Ford products and was wanting better fuel efficency, and a compact size. The price I paid was $7,000. I wondered if it would be worth it.

I'm extremely proud to say I'm still driving it. Last week I celebrated its birthday when the car hit 200,000 miles. There's is NOTHING wrong with the car at this time. It's still in mint condition. Everything is original. I have only been to the dealer a few times since I bought it 11 years ago. I have noticed, though, it uses about a quart of oil per oil change (doesn't burn it). I honestly believe I can get another 50,000 miles out of this car.

Hi folks, I am an owner of a Corolla 1986 and I love it because after all these years (86-2001) it's still unbeatable and I am very happy with its performance.

You are definitely right.

You said that you think you can drive it for another 50,000 miles. But I think after running another 50,000 miles you will still feel that it will go another 50,000 miles. To me Corolla is such a name. In Japan it is the symbol of Brightness and Victory. It is not just a car to do your everyday job, it is your best friend.
