1987 Toyota Corolla GTS

Summary:

This is the best little car I ever had

Faults:

Had to replace the clutch at 30,000 miles - it had not been installed correctly according to the mechanic. No other major replacements until after 100,000 miles. Since then struts, air conditioning (all parts) alternator, brakes, distributor, fuel pump, drivers electric window controller have all been repaired or replaced as needed.

The material on the drivers seat is worn.

There are a few rust spots.

General Comments:

This car has served me well.

It has been reliable and fuel effecient.

I don't think that this is a 2005 model, if it has 214000km on it.

This cannot be a 2005 mode, will someone post a review of an 05 model please.

The guy just made a mistake in the heading, appears it is actually a 1987 model.

I don't think there is even a "GTS" version of the 2005 Corolla.

Stay tuned for my review of my 2006 ECHO though!

1987 Toyota Corolla FX 1.6

Summary:

The most dependable car I have ever owned

Faults:

Very little. Other than having the valves ground at 93,000 when I bought the car second hand, all I have done basically is tune it up, and get the oil changed at regular intervals. That's it! Oh, I did put a new muffler on her a few years back, but that's it!

General Comments:

A friend urged me to get a Toyota back in '93 because of the high quality and dependability of Toyota.

I saw this car on a lot in 1993, test drove it, and knew it was for me. Absolutely the most reliable, dependable car I have ever owned. Since '93 I have only put about 53,000 miles on her in 11 years, and runs as strong as when I first bought her.

The only disappointment I can think of is the gas mileage isn't all that great. Its not bad, really, but not great in city driving.

1987 Toyota Corolla FX16

Summary:

This is a great little zippy car!

Faults:

The shocks are gone.

Had to replace the timing belt and cam after 215,000 miles.

The screws have come loose on the ashtray and glove box.

But what can you expect for a car that is 17 years old and has 245,000 miles on it.

This car is still running strong.

General Comments:

I love my little Corolla.

You can't beat this car for reliability and cost effectiveness.

I agree, mine was totaled due to accident. But this is a nice little car.

1987 Toyota Corolla LX 1.6 Litre

Summary:

Average to good high mileage small car

Faults:

First and foremost was the brakes. They wore out consistently on average every two years. This being the rotors either being replaced or worked on.

Second, the muffler had to be replaced (specifically the underneath piping would rust out) on average every two years.

Between getting the brakes worked on or replacing the muffler piping (which of course is not covered under any warranty) became quite expensive.

The front headlight bulbs seemed to go quite often. I probably had to replace at least one bulb every year and a half or so over a ten year period.

General Comments:

I owned this Toyota Corolla LS from (purchased new in 1987) till I sold it to my sister-in-law in 1999 - a span of just over 11 years.

The 1.6 L engine coupled with an overdrive auto transmission was all right for around town driving. It had resonable power for the highway although getting up to highway speed or attempting to pass at highway speed was a challenge.

The seat comfort, visibilty and overall ride was really good. Gas mileage was super and original tire wear was was great. I replaced the original tires after 7 years of use.

1987 Toyota Corolla FX 1.6

Summary:

A economic bargain

Faults:

I had to replaced the Slave Cylinder and the Axle Boots.

The car is rusted out around all the wheel wells.

The choke keeps getting stuck open and I have to clean it out constantly.

General Comments:

I bought the car for $100 at a car auction and has keeps running for 2 years and keeps going.

I like the car.

People has offered to buy it for $500, but I refuse to sell it.

The car handles well, but lacks acceleration.
