1998 Toyota Corolla LX

Summary:

A Corolla is inexpensive to drive and will last until you buy a new one.

Faults:

The only complaint I have ever had with Toyota's are the brakes. For some reason I am forever replacing the brakes.

General Comments:

The last 4 vehicles I bought were Toyota's.

I had a 1992 Corolla before this one and I traded it in with 284,000 on it.

At that time the only major money put into this car was maintenance.

I put brakes on it and 2 timing belts.

This Corolla was a manual transmission and I traded it in with the original clutch.

The newer '98 has 178000 miles and I have never had to replace anything other than a battery and the brakes. I.

Hi, I don't recall the 1998 being available in an "LX". There was the VE, the CE (which I have), and the LE. Never heard of "LX". Might have to push the "inappropriate" button here!

1998 Toyota Corolla LE 1.8

Summary:

Fast, Reliable, Cheap, economy car

Faults:

Just the common wear and tear.

Clutch going soon, getting new one soon. Little pricey 631$ for a Stage 1 performance clutch.

General Comments:

This car is a very good car. I have raced many car's and very few beat me. My greatest wins are a 350 97 Cammaro, and 2005 v6 Mustang.

The handling is OK for your common driver, I drive on the wild side and it keeps up with me for the most part.

The front seats are very comfortable, and you can fit five people in the car with out squishing them. I have had seven people in my car the only problem was it was a little low to the ground.

I have Intake, exhaust on the car, it sounds beastly sounds almost like putting a Flow Master on a truck. It dosnt sound riced and crackle at high RPMs.

This is a very good economy car. I highly recommend this car.

Car-Stats Report for 1998 Toyota Corolla LE. Obtained from MT December, 1997.

0-60: 10.3

1/4 Mile: 17.6

1/4 Speed: 80.

I've no doubt that you enjoy driving your car, but let's be realistic about performance shall we? Intake and exhaust on a NA 120hp engine isn't going to give you much of a noticeable performance gain at all. A V6 'stang may be slow as balls, but it's not THAT slow...

1998 Toyota Corolla CE 1.8

Summary:

This car sucks; big time

Faults:

My seat belt light continues to blink from about 40000 miles. It may be a serious problem if it is not registering that I have my seat belt on.

I now have 107000 miles and the car has no power to even pass another car on the freeway. I wish that I got a Honda instead.

I have had two alignments and still feel a drift to the right at times.

My brakes wear out extremely fast for a small car. I change them every 25-30 thousand miles. And I use ceramic pads.

My air conditioner is also very weak. My girlfriend has a Tecel and her a/c is more powerful that mine is.

And my head lights continue to burn out rapidly. I believe there is a problem with a steady current flow to the lights. I am of course out of my warranty.

General Comments:

Don't buy a Toyota. the sales team there give no breaks and they take advantage of people everyday.

I was not happy with this purchase and will never buy another Toyota again.

One good note about this corolla is that the stereo is easy to install.

The speakers are also pretty good.

If you need more power, take the bottom off the air filter box, costs nothing and guaranteed to give you more boost.

Works for any Fuel Injected car.
